So I have a venue! Yay! There was a lot of hemming, hawing and wringing of hands, but we put the deposit down today.
The lady we spoke with said it was possible to have pictures of the bridal party in the beautiful “artistic” rooms of the venue, but that it would have to be done before the guests began arriving.
You know what that means.
Now, up until this point I have been pretty vehemently anti-first look. I’m a traditionalist. I didn’t want to spoil the moment for the guests. BUT…those rooms are so beautiful and will make AMAZING photos. So I guess my only option is to do one.
I personally think that the “bride sneaking up and tapping the groom on the shoulder” is a bit overdone.
So I have come up with what might be a solution. My venue has a large theater. It seats 1500 which will dwarf my wedding, and I also don’t really want to get married on a stage, but what about for a first look? It would be nice, because Fiance grew up in and majored in theater and spent quite a bit of time as a stage hand. But what do you guys think about the logistics of having a first look here? The idea is that the curtain will be pulled aside and we will be face-to-face, rather than anyone turning around. Could this work?
Here’s a photo of the space, By The Way.

We’re doing something similar, in that my dressing room has double pocket doors that we will slide open and Fiance and i will be face to face! I love the idea!!!! Plus they could probably do some cool lighting!!

I love your pole! But do you have anything with strippers?
I think it’s a great idea – it’s something that works personally for the two of you, and it won’t be “overdone” (because everyone compares wedding photos, right?). As long as it’s something that you are both happy with, and it sounds like you are, then go for it!

LOVE the idea of a curtain-pulling first look!

I think that sounds perfect! It’s personally relevant and dramatic.

@lstyle25: Mine thinks it’s cheesy, too. A lot of my friends think it’s cute though. I think I’m just irritated by it because it seems like the biggest part of the blogs I see have brides that do first look, and the vast majority of them do the shoulder-tap thing. It’s like anything you see over and over and over again; it gets old after awhile. (Though I seriously doubt anyone else wastes as much time on blogs as I do. I am making my way through SMP, front to back, and I’ve already finished Brides Cafe.)
