I am another one who feels sometimes the first look photos can be a little contrived-looking. You know the ones where the bride sneaks up on the groom and taps him on the shoulder? Like they’re playing peekabo? True story, I know a bride who did this at her photographer’s request and on the day of, the groom was totally sneaked up on. And he jumped about ten feet in the air and his first words to his bride were “you scared the sh_t out of me!” Not as romantic as she hoped.

Or else it’s just a series of pictures of the groom walking across the room or the meadow or up the stairs or whatever. Here he is 50 feet away…. here he is 20 feet away… here is the anticlimatic reaction picture. There are some photographers who can do it really well but sometimes I feel bad for the poor bride if the pics don’t really show her Fiance being blown away by her look 🙁 I think ALL grooms are really blown away but a lot of them don’t show it on their faces very plainly, especially if they are conscious of the clicky-clicky camera. I think for grooms, waiting at the end of the aisle is much more of an intense “out of body experience” than just meeting with the bride before the ceremony, there’s more butterflies and so forth.

No first look for me. Im going to run around hiding from him until I walk down that aisle. This is one of the few things that I’m actually feeling pretty traditional about.

We did the walk down the aisle.  We had plenty of time for pictures after.  The anticipation of seeing him before the ceremony was unreal and I loved it (he did too).

The only thing I would change is cutting down on the time we allotted for pictures and join our cocktail party (DH told me later how much he wanted to be part of it – and I had NO IDEA!)
