The formal photos with everyone? Or just the first look?

Assuming you mean actually the first look, it didnt take long- about 10 minutes. We read each others cards while facing away from each other, then turned around and kissed and hugged. Took a few formal shots (he was shooting the whole time) and then walked out to everyone and formal posed shots commenced with everyone (we actually did the bridal portraits and bridal party formal shots before the groom and gms got there)

We took about 20 minutes to do our first look as we weren’t taking that many pics after the ceremony.

We usually ask for 30-45 minutes for the first look & to get portraits afterwards from our couples! Hope that helps!!

We did 30 minutes and it was adequate for our purposes. We also already had a day-after shoot scheduled, so we weren’t too concerned with the amount of time spent doing couples photos on our wedding day.

If you’re only doing a first look, I would recommend setting aside 20 minutes. If you plan on doing first look, and then some bride and groom portraits, then you will need to set aside anywhere between 1-2 hours.

@Take The Reins: Ours were about 3-5 mins.  He was turned around at the top of the stairs and I came up behind him and then when I was part way up he turned around.  We hugged and kissed for a minute and then we went right into our formal portraits.

We did our first look and then went right into our formal portraits and then the wedding party. We alloted an hour and 15 minutes. It was the perfect amount of time.

Just the first look shouldn’t take more than about 10-15 minutes but if you are planning on taking pictures together before the wedding then you should a lot much more time.

If you’re talking about first look, portraits, and wedding party shots, I’d suggest giving more time than you think. My family is HUGE and complicated, so even though we alloted 1 1/2 hours for all of these shots, it wasn’t enough. For first look and bride/groom shots, we gave ~45 minutes. The actual first look shot took about 10 minutes.
