Commenting to subscribe.  We’re doing a first look… mainly because of time restrictions but I’m really looking forward to that little bit of time with FH before the ceremony & before the guests see us!

Also interested…

At present, we’re not doing one. I like the idea, raised it with partner but he thinks it might upset me if we meet up & then have to temporarily separate for the beginning of the ceremony. Which is actually true, cos I’m a sookie-la-la & will probably ugly-cry my way down the aisle, so probs not a good idea to start that before the show officially starts.

Unless a bride on here has actually had 2 weddings, one where she did a first look and another where she did not do one, she would have no way of knowing whether or not the first look took away from the emotion or had any other effect. So just know that your pool of eligible responses will likely be quite small. Just do what feels right to you, and forget about other people’s opinions.

@SmthngBlu8:  But if your expectations are out of line with reality, you’d be disappointed either way. So it still doesn’t matter whether it’s a first look or a down the aisle look. The first time you see each other, regardless of the setting/timing, will be as special or as not special as you and your partner make it out to be.

For me, I do not think that walking down the aisle carried less emotion because I did a first look. Having a first look allowed us to spend more time with friends and family at the wedding, since we had an evening wedding and the reception and ceremony were at the same location.  If we’d waited to do pictures until after the ceremony, we would have: 1. not spent as much time taking pictures or not had as many good ones to choose from, and 2. spent the whole cocktail hour standing around taking pictures instead of enjoying ourselves.

I think if you are having a church ceremony and there will be a few hours between the ceremony and the reception where you can take pictures, then by all means, you have time to not do a first look and not be taking away from your time with your guests.  But if I could repeat my own wedding, I would still do a first look, just due to the logistics of everything.

FWIW, both the first look and walking down the aisle were very emotional and meaningful for Darling Husband and I, just in different ways Smile

We did not do a first look but we also did not wait until walking down the aisle to see each other. We’re not that kind to do those things and spent the time before the wedding taking pictures so we can spend time with out friends and family.  Trust me, walking down the aisle to your future husband is still so special with or without seeing each other first.

@SmthngBlu8:  We plan on doing a first look.  I don’t think it will take away from walking down the aisle at all.  I just love the pictures that come from the first look, some of the best pics I have seen have been the first look.

We did a first look and I can honestly admit I regret it. I don’t know if it took away from any emotion but it was hella awkward. We had a big bridal party and between them and our families staring at us, cameras ready to shoot, it wasn’t natural and looked stage haha. Plus neither Darling Husband or I are ones to cry out of emotion so we probably looked like buddies saying hi Lol.
