First period after going off the pill

It took me 42 days to get mine and it was just a regular period but I had a lot of cramps.  Some months they’re so painful the first day that it radiates down my legs.  I was on BC for nearly 20 years!  Ever since that first period, I’ve been very regular, every 26 days.

veganeh :  Were you regular before the pill and have you taken a pregnancy test? If you were regular before then you’d most likely be regular again, but I understand that you were on the pill for a while so it may take longer for your cycle to regulate. Also, if you’re pregnant then that would be why you haven’t gotten your period yet. I was on the pill for 7.5 years and got my withdrawal bleed a few days after my last pill and then my first real period 28 days later. I know that doesn’t happen for everyone though.

Mine was right on time and surprisingly normal. It was maybe a little bit heavier and crampier than on the pill. But I’ve always had VERY regular periods. Are yours normally a little irregular? And I’m assuming you’ve taken a pregnancy test?

veganeh :  It kind of makes me wonder if perhaps your period was very delayed and confused after going off the pill, and then on top of that maybe you got pregnant in May or June.

veganeh :  My first month off the pill was textbook. The second month was normal but with a SUPER short period (2 days) — not normal for me.  I’m now on my third month and waiting to see what happens. I chart and temp with Fertility Friend. It still hasn’t predicted my period dates, but I’m sure I’ll get it next week.

As much as I hate this answer, everyone is different. Some women experience no period for a few months after stopping the pill.

Mine was pretty normal…it came like 32 days or so after I stopped taking the pill. It was on the lighter side, but it turns out light periods are the norm for me.

Since you’ve gone months without a period, at this point I’d be calling the doctor (after you take a pregnancy test). It’s not uncommon for it to take a few months for your period to come back after being on the pill, so no reason to panic, but your doctor may want to put you on medication to jumpstart your cycle.

Took me over 60 days to get it back.
Never got back on track in the 10 months i was off b/c. Had spotting all the time.
I ended up going back on for acne reasons but it was beginning to freak me out how irregular I was. I was very regular before I went on b/c at 16.

I got mine back right away. It stayed regular and matches my cycles on the pill. I did have horrible cramps the first “normal” period I had though.

veganeh :  I see. Well I’d definitely take the other pregnancy test and then call my gynecologist either way to get their take on the matter. As other people have suggested, it could just be taking a while or you could get prescribed medication to induce your period. Good luck!

My first period post-BC was super light – I thought it was just spotting as didn’t need a tampon at all. Have now had my second off the pill and it’s still very light though more clearly a period (ie required a ‘regular’ tampon). Cycles have been 29 days and 27 days respectively.

As someone who always had v heavy periods on the pill, I’m hoping it lasts. The only downside is I seem to have swapped bad period pains for bad ovulations pains..!

My first period off the pill was very… little. A little spotting, and then nothing. However, the next period was HECK. Heavy, heavy flow, crippling cramps, headaches, the whole 9-yards.
