chanchito :  I wanted to tell my parents in person, so while we were driving over to see them, I did text a bunch of my friends. My mom was the first person I wanted to see and show my ring to though 🙂

We were with two of our best friends when it happened. So they knew first, then I texted the rest.

We kept it to ourselves for a bit. A couple of days in fact. Then we both told our mothers, then siblings, then friends.

chanchito :  He proposed during the evening on the beach in Jamaica. We had limited access to wifi on the resort (it was spotty) so I texted my family and closest friends in WhatsApp while we celebrated at the bar (among strangers but they were all happy for us) and the next day we announced on social media with a picture.

We got engaged during a weekend away, just the two of us. It was nice to have that weekend with him alone before anyone knew. The ONLY person I told almost right away was my best friend. It was still several hours later though while my husband was asleep. I just couldn’t fall asleep because I was so excited so I called my friend to gush 🙂 On the drive home from our trip, we stopped at my parents’ house (just a few miles from our home) to tell them the good news in person. Then that night we went over to his family’s house to tell them. I also called my other good friends that evening to tell them (they live out of state so a phone call was the best I could do). The next day was a Monday so I went into work and shared the news there. Then that night I posted about it on Facebook. Made sure to tell all the VIPs in person beforehand!

My dad was the first person I told. It happened so late at night, that I didn’t tell anyone until the next morning. He was so excited :-).

We were on vacation with my cousin and her husband but having dinner just the two of us (they knew it was happening at dinner). Aside from the waiter who walked up to us mid-proposal (then backed away quickly–haha!), I called my mom right away from the bathroom and then group texted my closest girlfriends. News spread pretty quickly after that.

We then drank champagne on a rooftop with my cousin. Such a great night.

We both let our families know that night. I called my grandma after about 10 minutes. She was in poor health, had been “waiting” for me harder than I was, and had given us her engagement ring to use, so I wanted her to be the first to know. Then I called my parents, then my sister, then my brother, then my best friend.

FI’s parents, his siblings, my parents, since he asked for their blessing and my brother (he helped coordinate him talking to my parents) already knew…so lots of people knew before I even did! But I couldn’t wait to tell my bestie and the rest of my siblings, so on our drive over to his parents to celebrate I made a bunch of phone calls and texts. All my family lives out of state. But we did wait until much later in the night to post it on social media. We wanted to just enjoy the evening together. It was wonderful!

chanchito :  We were out of town, so we called pretty much all immediate family. I called my Maid/Matron of Honor and sister.

My fiancé proposed late at night, so I waited until the next day to tell everyone (which happened to be Thanksgiving!) I called my aunt first thing the next day, because she is basically my mom. Then I told my sister in person on the way to Thanksgiving, then we told my fiancé’s brother and mom at thanksgiving, and then I called my best friend. Then my brother. So, basically I told closest family first!

We bought the ring together.  I told my sister that we had bought a ring, but I waited until he proposed to tell anyone else.

After he officially proposed, I called my parents, and then I texted my sister and two close friends.  Since it was later at night, I waited until the morning to call my grandma.  Then we posted it on facebook.

My parents! Although my dad was away on a work trip, so it ended up as two separate calls. I then called my sister and some other family members, and we contacted FI’s family as well!

We made sure to call or text all family members and close friends before posting anything on social media.

chanchito :  I called my Mum and Dad after about half an hour. They knew it was happening but I didn’t know they knew! Then I called my 2 Nans, tried FI’s parents (but they were away for the weekend) before calling his nan and texting my siblings and besties 🙂
