After eyeing the site wistfully for awhile, I have finally decided to join. I’m really excited to get to know everyone and start getting some wedding advice!
Although we are living in northwest Ohio for the moment, my fiance and I are getting married in Pittsburgh, my hometown. We went on a mass venue tour during a visit two months ago and fell in love with The Succop Conservancy, a venue in Butler (about 30 miles outside of Pittsburgh). The venue is beautiful and, in fact, only a wedding venue on the weekends – during the week it is a nature conservancy used for classes and field trips for people of all ages. This was our main selling point, as big tree-hugging, granola munching nature lovers. We are planning to have both our ceremony and our reception on the grounds.
But there was one thing that made me unsure. 2010 was the Conservancy’s first season as a wedding venue. I think this is the only reason we can afford it, to be honest (B is just starting a career out of school and I still need to go to grad school), but it also makes me a bit nervous. New means less experienced, more room for error. But it also means more enthusiastic and involved.
Has anyone ever worked with a new wedding venue before? If so, did the pros outweigh the cons? Any words of wisdom?
