I just got our shippments as well! Altough our little one wont be born until April I stocked on my BG’s due to the sale (well my mom stocked me up lol). We now have a total of 24 which I’m happy with.

I did a lot of research and the two diapers I’m most interested in are the BG’s and Rump-a-rooz. I just ordered 1 Rump-a-rooz (which came today!) to visually compare with the BG. (I also had a $5 off coupon code for November which I would be more than happy to share if your interested. Just PM me)

Would you all recommend the 4.0’s over the bumgenius elemental AIO? Is the 10.00 extra per diaper worth it for the AIO?

So the difference between the 4.0 and the elemental is that the elemental is all organic (thus it’s much higher price tag) and that it doesn’t require liner stuffing (which I don’t necessarily see as an advantage, but someone who is really resistant to cloth diapering might).

Our stash is made up of BG 3.0 with aplix (velcro) primarily.  We are just now getting a 6 pack of the BG 4.0 with snaps, so I’ll be able to compare the two soon.

If you are really concerned about going organic cotton, then maybe the elemental would be worth the 24.95 price tag, but 14.00 per diaper on the 4.0’s was too good to pass up!  If you are really concerned that someone in your life wouldn’t be able to put soakers into the liner then again it might be a reasonable choice to use the elemental.  I just like the flexibility of being able to add an extra soaker at night to prevent leaks (which you can do in the 3 and 4.0s).

Thanks for the info! I definitely want to get snaps, but now that I see the 4.0’s have the choice between snaps or velcro, then that seems the way to go. Do the inserts come with the diapers or do you have to buy them separately? If they come with them, can you buy extras if you need them?

@dchokiebride3, are you thinking about getting the lil joey rumparooz to use with your newborn? or do you think the bumgenius and regular size rumparooz will fit? I’ve read that the regular size ones don’t always fit on a newborn, but i can’t decide if I should just use disposables until they fit or spend the money to buy the lil joeys?

@jubyju22: Each diaper comes with one microfleece soaker and one smaller extra insert, so no need to buy anything.  We only use the extra for overnights, so we find that we have MORE THAN enough inserts for our needs!  You can buy extras if you want, but you really won’t need them.

We purchased all BG  4.0s with velcro and a couple Elementals with snaps. 4.0s are pretty sturdy. But the Elementals look pretty bulky, fluffy and it appears the built in liners might hang out. Baby’s not here so I’m not a pro, but just by looking at the Elementals, I’m not a fan. I would say go one at a time until you see them for yourself.

At birth, we will likely use newborn disposables that friends gave us because the 4.0s are supposed to be a little bulky, depending on the size of your baby.

@dchokiebride3: Just noticed we were married ON THE SAME DAY and expecting around the same time too!

@dchokiebride3: Jan. 9th–but you never know! I’m hoping for 1/11/11.

Like you…My husband’s over 6ft tall so maybe our baby will be born on the bigger side? Yikes! Our baby (my stomach) looks a little on the big size right now.We both were not fully committed to the idea of having kids when we first got married but were thrilled to get pregnant when we finally decided we are ready and eager! Why did they decide to switch your date? Based on measurements? Are you having a girl too?

Oh and I think I have about 20 CD and will be accessorizing with cloth wipes, wetbag, liner/pail, and likely a diaper sprayer. We also hung a clothesline. You may want to read up on detergents…everyone seems to have a conflicting opinion. I finally said whatever and washed ’em in Dreft.

Please see the cloth diapering thread for some comprehensive resources about washing diapers, types of diapers, what kinds of rash creams you can use, how to treat repelling diapers and all other info you might need.

Here’s the link: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/cloth-diapering-resources

We started with 24 diapers– which was totally fine… but then 3.0’s were on sale “Buy 5 get 1 free” so we got 12.  That brought us to 36.. and then we wanted to try 4.0 snaps (especially good when babies start being able to pull at things because they can’t pull them off) and we got 6 of those… so we have 42 diapers, which is more more more than enough and I need to stop! (It’s addicting!)

@808bride:  Just so you know, Dreft will seem fine at first, but after a while it will build up on your diapers and start repelling urine.  You should get a fragrance, enzyme, softener free detergent.

People have had good luck with Tide Free, Rockin’ Green, Allen’s, BioKleen and I think one called Country Free.

On Polka Dots and Pinstripes there is a comprehensive rating of all the different detergents.

It’s fine to wash in something like Dreft a couple of times, but I don’t want you to get discouraged a month in when your diapers stop working 🙂

@Mrs. DG: Thanks for the tips. I will get some CD-friendly detergent for the next batch. The last thing I need is to have to strip all the diapers of build-up, one month in.
