First off: no matter what you will look gorgeous when you find the right dress! It sounds cliche, but it’s true. Even if you put on a little weight I’m sure you will still look beautiful. I think it’s a matter of confidence. I’ve been struggling to lose weight I put on after a car accident a few years ago and have yet to keep it off consistantly. I still have bad days, but my dress makes me feel pretty (especially when I think of how my fiance will smile when he sees me in it).

I would say to avoid stomach hugging you should maybe try on some A-line dresses first to see if you like those. They generally look great on any body type. Since the hips flow out in an A shape it kind of smooths over the tummy. I ended up going with an A-Line that had a lace up (corset style) top. That kind of helped smooth over my bad spots. I really had my heart set on all lace, but those dresses looked awful on me (lace is not a forgiving fabric…).

Just try not to be nervous and go in with an open mind. Tell youself how beautiful you are before you go in. If you have to then write yourself a little note. Any time you feel like you doubt yourself just pull that note out and tell yourself you can find that dress. Don’t be afraid to try on what you like. You might be surprised and find what you want looks fantastic on you! If it doesn’t look so great (like my lace problem…) then don’t get discouraged! That just means you have to change tactics. : D

Just relax and try to enjoy yourself!!!  I know it can be hard if you are feeling a little self-conscious but try not to worry too much. You WILL find a dress you love. I may not be the best for advice because I absoulutely loved dress shopping but when I went out I made sure to only take a couple people with me. At first I was at stores where I just walked around to try to find something I liked then at the end of the day we just by chance found this place where you had help. My consultatnt was the best person ever!!! If you get something like that then you will be fine. I know I’ve heard of people talking about how the person they worked with were rude and ruinied their time etc. If you come across something like that just don’t let it discourage you because they are not all like that.

HAVE FUN!!!!!  Laughing

Here’s my hint. Don’t compare yourself to the other brides trying thing on they have different bodyshapes / sizes to you! The dresses will be ill fitting either way – it is not how it will look on you when you get it!

No matter waht don’t let the sales ppl pressure you. Time limits etc – its their job.

@MrsMSmith:  No problem! Hey if you really want to you could take him with you. You would just have to throw superstition to the wind. If you want him to be surprised you could just imagine his face and maybe send teasing photos of parts of the dress.

You may get lucky. I know I found my dress on the first day. I didn’t buy it that day though. I wasn’t sure due to my insecurities, but when I went home I could not stop thinking about the dress and how much I really did love it. If you don’t find any you like don’t get discouraged. Just go home and regroup. Besides, you can always post photos on here for other bees to help you figure out what looks best as you go. I’m sure you know how much the ladies here like to “oooh” and “ahhh” over dresses!

I know I want to see when you find something you like!

@Adalita:  Good point! Yep don’t forget that they are sample sizes and will be stretched (and maybe saggy from sitting on hangers for a long period of time). Heavy dresses will especially be prone to losing their shape if they’ve had the sample for a long time.

Awww I’m sorry to hear that. Like I said not all consultants are bad and if you find the right one your experience will be better.

I’m glad that you went in with an open mind. That always helps.

I didn’t find my dress on my first outing either. I hope the next time is better for you
