How are you all spending Thanksgiving?
Darling Husband and I got married 2 weeks ago and since we’re both working the day before and after Thanksgiving so we can’t go away to visit our families. I have some distant relatives who live about an hour away and are hosting Thanksgiving but I sort of just want to spend it alone – just me, Darling Husband and my father in law who lives with us.
I looked up some meal ideas and have already come up with a great menu! Darling Husband didn’t grow up celebrating holidays so he doesn’t really care.
Is it wierd to want to spend the holiday alone? Did any of you do that on your first married Thanksgiving?

@snd485: not married yet, but I think it’s sweet you two spend it by yourselves.

@snd485: Hi wedding date twin! We already informed the parents that due to the close proximity of the wedding and Thanksgiving, we are sitting this holiday out. We recently bought annual passes to Universal Orlando for an early Christmas present to each other so we’re planning on going to the theme parks for Thanksgiving.
As far as a turkey dinner, I already bought the turkey and my husband has decreed that we will be consuming said turkey on the Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving while we decorate our first married Christmas tree.

We’re spending Thanksgiving day with his family then traveling to visit my family the rest of the weekend.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong just spending it with the 3 of you. Sounds really nice to me! I’d love the opportunity to just have Thanksgiving with my Darling Husband and I where I could do all the cooking!

@snd485: Not weird to spend it alone, and if we didn’t have family that celebrated I would TOTALLY be open to spending it alone.
Enjoy the holiday together 🙂

I love thanksgiving/christmas with just my husband and I. We’re not particularly close to our families, so they’re really more of a pain to go/have visit. Plus, we get to cook all the foods we like and don’t have to cater to anyone else.

@MrsWBS: Exactly what we are doing too. We will spend Thanksgiving with his family and then spend the rest of the weekend with mine. Thanksgiving is a really big holiday in his family!

This will never happen for us because my parents only live an hour away and I’m my mother’s only child, so we will always fly to see his family or we will stay home and see mine.
I think its kind of nice that you guys will just spend it alone! Kind of sweet and romantic. Its our 1st married Thanksgiving, too! 🙂

@snd485: Not weird at all! DH’s family all lives in town so we will spend Thanksgiving with them but just yesterday we talked about what traditions we can start with just the two of us!
