Now here is an oldie but goodie memory (circa 1984)

My Ex-H and I spent two weeks in a Hotel (we were moving for a job… company had a GREAT relocation package)… and we were sooo excited to be buying our FIRST house EVER!!  In the interim, we had the house painted and carpets cleaned.

Not as romantic as our first apartment together… when we had a picnic on the Living Room floor, or when we bought our BIG house and threw our mattress on the floor after the movers left at midnight and “christened” the place

Honestly treasurer these moments… and take pics… because they really are “some of the memories of your life”

We went to the house sat on the living room floor to figure how where things would go. Then broke the house in lol…

Um, we waited for the previous owners to come back because THEY HAD FORGOTTEN THEIR CAT!  Lol!  It was hilarious until we found out it had pissed and sprayed all over the basement since it was pissed off, ugh.  It took a LOT of work (we’re talking washing every inch of wall and floor with vinegar and special cat-pee-removing solution) to get THAT smell to go away.

I actually had to go to class (I was in grad school at the time). After that, though, we moved my fiance’s Jeep over and parked in in our very own garage 🙂

Nothing special ..starting brining in the contractors to put a fresh coat of paint, do some landscaping, purchase new appliances and then we put renters in it immediately! We didn’t want to get attached to it since were werent going to live in it right away or at all!

We got the keys the day before Xmas eve! And we were leaving the next night to see FI’s family. So we went over to the house, walked thru it all again, figured out paint colors. We got back the night after Xmas at like 8:00 but we wanted to do SOMETHING so we went Lowes and got new kitchen cabinet hardware and put those on. Luckily we were both off week until New Years so we painted every single room.

We went over to the house and just relished in the fact that it was ours.  And then we started moving boxes!

i don’t own a house. but when my parents closed on the house they’re in now, the first thing they did was have all the locks re-keyed so that one key works in every door. literally, five minutes after they had the keys in hand, they called the locksmith. i found it weird. but that’s my parents for you.

We immediately ran upstairs to the bedroom and “broke it in”. We were 24 and 25 so we were like rabbits back then. lol

Went to lunch, picked up our dogs and brought them to the new house. That night we had pizza and champagne and invited friends and family over to celebrate.

We moved! Fiance was at closing while I wrapped up the last boxes in the apartment. The movers were supposed to come right after so I brought the fragile items to the new house with me, then went out and got sandwich fixings and disposable plates and cutlery for the first week. We knew we wouldn’t want to feel pressure to unpack plates and things first… or do dishes. That way we were able to unpack our clothes and things for work 48 hrs later.

Oh I also accidentally smashed one of the two celebratory bottles of champagne I bought on the garage floor. We forgot about the other bottle in the fridge and drank it a month after moving in.

We biked back to his old house (yes, we rode bicycles to closing) got the first car load, went to a southern fried chicken place and got a hearty take out lunch.  We ate standing at our new bar-height counter and then started moving the fragile stuff in (paintings, hierlooms, etc).  Our renters moved in the next week so we had to be out asap.  It was a new build so there was no painting or renovations required, thank goodness!

My house was a foreclosure and I bought it myself. So when I closed, my dad and I changed into our dirty clothes in the lawyers office, went directly to the house and ripped up every inch of carpet, padding and other flooring in the entire house. The the closing was on a Tuesday at 4:30 and we worked until we almost dropped.

The house that I got was a steal and it was (is) in great structural shape, but the previous owners left it a DISASTER. The baseboards looked as if they had never been cleaned. We refloored and repainted that house from top to bottom.
