I’ve been lurking these boards for a long time now but this is my first post! I recently ordered a dress for my August 2014 wedding but am starting to have second thoughts. I bought the dress at my second dress appointment after trying on maybe 10 dresses total. I loved it when I tried it on and even shed a tear or two. However, now that I look back at the pictures from the salon I am having second thoughts. I feel it may be because it isn’t exactly what I had pictured myself wearing. I had always envisioned a lace mermaid/ fit and flare style- very simple and classic. But as you can see I ended up with a dress that flares just under the bum (a different fit than I had imagined liking) with a bit more detailing and beading.
I know I loved it in the store but am having trouble convincing myself that I chose the right one! Maybe I should have tried on more before saying yes?
I posted a pic of me in the dress (far too big- clipped at the back) and an example of what I had always pictured. What do you guys think of the dress compared to what I originally envisioned?
What I envisioned:

Honestly, what you have is probably easier to move in, and easier to fit. I had a mermaid (the under part of my dress) and they wouldn’t make it that tight since I wouldn’t be able to go to the bathroom. So you probably wouldn’t achieve the super smooth tight fitting mermaid from your dreams anyway =) I think your dress is really nice, and is actually really similar!

@magnolia87: Your dress is gorgeous! I love the detail. The one you envisioned is very pretty though.
I only had one appointment and tried on like 10 dresses total and it was the 9th one I tried on. I had second thoughts as I was leaving the bridal shop right after I ordered it. I didn’t cry or have the moment when I tried it on So that was one reason why I wasn’t sure. I’m usually very indecisive. I thought maybe I should have just nit order it quite yet until I was absolutely sure. Maybe i should have went to other bridal stores around my area. So I went home and looked at other dresses On line at bridal stores that were close to me and there really wasn’t any I would gave tried on. There was at least one thing I didn’t like about everyone. So when my dress came in and I tried it on I knew it was the dress for me. I just didn’t realize it until that moment!

Thanks ladies! When I look at the pictures I just feel that it cuts me off at a weird spot. But thinking back I did try on a few with a more mermaid shape and didn’t feel as good as I did in this one. hopefully when the dress comes in and fits me well I’ll know it’s the right one for me too!

@magnolia87: I have a crush on the dress you envisioned yourself in. But sometimes things are so different when you actually start trying on dresses! I think yours is similar and beautiful! It’s normal to feel a little worried, all that money!! When it comes in and you try it on again you’ll feel better.

I tried on a lot of dresses because I had a very specific idea of what I wanted. When I found my dress (The Dress) it was slightly different but something told me it was the one. I bought it and then had some mini freakouts. That was 6 months ago, and my wedding is in 2ish months. Since then I have loved my dress more and more. Whenever I see a pic of it I smile. Trust your instincts and you’ll know if its the one. You look beautiful, and the dress is awesome. These are totally natural feelings!

I think tthe dress you bought is very similar to what you envisioned, and once it is YOUR size I think you’ll love it even more! AND still be able to move around and have a great time on your wedding day!

I think the dress you bought is WAY better than the photo of the dress you liked!

That model photo is photoshopped to hell. Your dress looks great and very much like the above photo. I like yours better.

@magnolia87: I honestly love your dress, and I think you probably will too once it arrives and is fitted. It is a gorgeous, detailed, expensive looking gown that flatters your shape. I love it.

I love the dress you chose more than the one you envisioned yourself in. However, they are VERY similar. I think you could probably ask to have it pulled in a bit tighter on the lower part of the dress, that way it will have a more fitted and flared look. Do consider though, that they will only be able to pull in so much, and it probably won’t be as dramatic looking as the photoshopped picture you have posted.

I think you’ll feel different when it’s your size and altered.
Your dress is BEAUTIFUL and looks great on you! Don’t doubt yourself too much!

Thanks again everyone! And just for fun, some things I DO love about the dress:
The lace at the bottom and the cutout lace V at the neckline 🙂 Sorry for the huge pics!
