Good ol’ Mom and Mother-In-Law have both decided that we should have Thanksgiving dinner at my house this year. Fine, I don’t mind since they both agreed to cook the main dishes. However, there will be at least 10 of us. The dining room table sits 6 with the leaf. I have an open floor plan so the living room and dining room are pretty much the same thing. Moving the kitchen table is out of the question since we had to take it apart and almost destroyed the wall trying to get it in there in the first place. Would it be tacky to let some people sit on the couch and use the coffee table to eat at instead? Has anyone else hosted Thanksgiving in a small area before? Any advice is appreciated.

Aquaria: Buy or rent some card tables and chairs. We usually host T Day here and have table that folds up that seats 6. We put a nice table cloth on it and have chairs around it. Never have had an issue.

Aquaria: Eating on the couch might be a bit difficult. I would do like the PP said and just get a small table for the extra people. I am hosting Thanksgiving this year for FI’s family and we don’t even have a dining room table or dining room. We are just going to buy a cheap table and chairs off of craigslist or rent one and put it in the living room.

I think it depends on the family! At my house, some sit at the main table (mostly the grandparents, great-aunts/uncles), the younger ones (me, cousins, aunts, uncles) just kinda stand and talk or sit in the living room, and the football-lovers sit on the couch and watch the game. It’s fun, and although it seems like everyone’s off doing their own thing, we make it work and all have a great time.

Sassygrn: SithLady: nikkiibee: Thanks for the advice ladies. I think I’ll set up a folding table and chairs in the living room because all the boys are going to want to be right in front of the TV anyway.

Seems the consensus is a folding table and it totally works! Just get one from a hardware store and buy a longer table cloth if you are extending the dining room table or a smaller one 🙂 it works great and you will have it for years to come 🙂 also makes a great bar table if you ever have a party 🙂
