What are your plans? Any surprise gifts for your husband?
Last year, we stayed in and hubby made a delicious steak dinner, but this year we’re going out to one of our favorite steak houses. Now I just need a great gift! I was thinking about making a year in review photo book for my husband, because 2016 was big for us, but I work full-time and I’m in my last semester of grad school, so I think I’ve put it on the back burner for too long to get it done in time. I might make a slideshow video instead though.
I always struggle with gift ideas because my husband is one of those men who already has everything, so I hate to get things that will just be clutter and go unused. What are your plans and gift ideas? Happy first Valentine’s Day married! 🙂

Once we got married, we started combining all of our gifts throughout the year into one big vacation in the winter. We didn’t see the point on spending money all year round on forced gifts when 1) we both had jobs and generally bought ourselves anything we wanted, 2) if we saw something we thought the other person would like, we would buy it anytime instead of trying to wait for a holiday and 3) it gave us an excuse to take a nice trip every year.
If your hubby is so hard to shop for, maybe propose this to him. It takes soooo much pressure off of these hallmark holidays and greatly reduces the amount of clutter you have.

We don’t do Valentines Day gifts. It just seems so unnecessary. We cook dinner together, usually watch a movie, and have sex. That’s pretty much the extent of our Valentines Day celebration.

We do sometime very similar. Most years, we go on a trip together instead. For valentines day for the past couple years since getting married, we go to a really nice restaurant (we both cook and also on a tight budget, so it is something we rarely do and is a treat), and get each other a card. My husband usually gives me flowers- nothing fancy, but it is very sweet. Valentines day should be about enjoying each others company as you start to build a life together- it shouldn’t be stressful

We’ve always gone on a valentines day trip since we started dating. Just a local 3 day weekend trip, but it suits us and I prefer having fun experiences together over gifts. This year will be our first married Valentines day, but we’ll be doing the same. Next weekend we’re staying at a cabin in the mountains where we can snow shoe. There’s a public hot springs not too far away and we will have a hot tub with the cabin. I expect it to be a super fun and romantic weekend together 🙂

I hope we can go and do something fun this year! Dinner out or a movie. Last year I was really sick and so we sat on the couch and watched Frozen. Not so fun. With baby on the way, this is our last year alone!

We usually just get dinner at like Olive Garden or something.

Most of my gifts tend to be experiences (go-kart racing, tickets to our local theater, rock climbing, etc.) so I like the idea of a trip. We are planning to go to Disney and Bermuda this May for our belated honeymoon and first anniversary trip, so that’s already in the works.
That was pretty much our Valentine’s Day last year to the letter lol
I’m certainly not stressed about it, but he always
surprises me with a gift even if we say we’re not doing gifts, so I like to have something to give him as well.
That’s really cute. I like the idea of a weekend getaway, even if it isn’t that far from home. I think at this point, I’d rather contribute to our bigger trip in May, so I’m looking for smaller gift ideas.

My birthday is 4 days after Valentine’s Day (this year’s the big 3-0….gulp!!) so we usually go out for dinner either on V Day or my birthday, depending which day it falls on, and call it a combined thing. This year, since it’s a big one, we’re going out for dinner with a group of about 20 friends on my birthday, so I doubt we’ll do anything to mark the day on V Day. Sometimes DH sends flowers to me at work, though, which is always a nice surprise 🙂

Last year was our first Valentines day married. We had agreed no gifts…Well to my surprise, I woke up on V-day and DH and separated a bunch of mini-eggs into different envelopes/bags in the kitchen for me with a note in each one. The notes were like “the number of mini eggs for the number of months we’ve been together”, or “the number of mini eggs for the number of fur-babies we have” or “the number of mini eggs for the number of trips we have taken together” and so forth. Needless to say, I looked like an ass for having nothing for him but it was super sweet of him.
