mrsnitti17 :  well i checked both something big and small because we’re going out to dinner, but it’s to a three Michelin starred restaurant…so it’s kinda big (i mean, dropping $1500 on a dinner seems big to me)

For the actual date of our first anniversary, probably nothing (I think it’s on a Tuesday)? But we are hoping to take some sort of trip the week after! We never make a big fuss of celebrating events on the exact day, can you not do something the next weekend for yours?

I gave my husband a vintage poster (because paper anniversary) that had special meaning for him.

On the day of our first wedding anniversary, Darling Husband was flying to start a job in another state and I stayed behind to finish up my job and sell our house.  Starting on our anniversary, we were apart for the best part of about 3 months.  So I totally understand being a little disappointed by the timing of other stuff that impacts your special day.

Our first anniversary happened to fall on a Monday. Darling Husband went out of his way to plan a really special weekend. He booked our wedding venue for a few hours. Our florist delivered a remake of my bridal bouquet. Our baker made cupcakes in our cake flavors. We had dinner from our caterer. And we danced to our first dance song. It was so special and perfect. We also got a couples massage and stayed in a really nice hotel.

I don’t know what your schedule is like in the days before or after your anniversary, but maybe you can plan to do something special on a different day?

    Happy anniversay, Bee!

mrsnitti17 :  he did a really good job and surprised the heck out of me.

Maybe on your trip for your sister’s wedding, you can carve out a little private time with your husband? If your schedule allows, perhaps a nice dinner or a relaxing spa treatment together. Or whatever you’re into together.

We want to go back and stay in the cottage we rented for a few days after our wedding.

In your situation though, I think I’d either try and do something special (like a meal) on one of the days in the US, or celebrate it on a different day at home. Also you don’t have to join them for the going away breakfast if that gives you a bit of time to do something.

What about booking a ‘nice car’ for the airport ride, booking into one of the lounges, could you upgrade your flights etc? I get it’s not quite the same as doing these things for a trip of your own, but it might be fun!

Our 1st anniversary is today. What are we doing? Absolutely nothing, except life stuff like grocery shopping, meal prep, laundry, etc.

We went out on Friday for drinks and a sightseeing tour. Celebrating on the actual day isn’t too important to me, so just plan something special for when you can do it!

For the actual date of our first anniversary, I made dinner and Darling Husband brought home wine and a beautiful flower arrangement. I cooked filet mignon and scallops on a himalayan salt block and roasted some asparagus. I also made some tiramisu from scratch. We also did “other stuff”. hehe
It was right after Christmas, so we didn’t have any vacation time or a whole lot of money to blow.

We went on vacation. You could “celebrate” your anniversary on another day around the time of your anniversary.

mrsnitti17 :  do you have to go to the breakfast in the morning? Most weddings I’ve been to didnt have one – or if they did they were casual affairs.  I would personally skip that and do breakfast just the two of you instead.
