Last night there was a storm in my hometown, complete with a temporary power outage (at least at my/mom and stepdad’s house) and a tornado warning. While “my” house was damaged and there was no actual tornado, the side of town that Fiance lives on got hit by the storm. Some businesses were damaged or at least had no power still. (The latter being the case with the office where my mom works). And after the warning had come and gone, my Fiance called me and informed me that part of his building got damaged, which could’ve posed a problem for him having me over on Thursday (I’ve been staying with him part-time for up to a month so far). Initially it sounded to me like building was partly mangled, but it was more like some of the apartments (including his) had cracked walls, sunken in ceilings, etc, resulting from the storm. Luckily he was able to stay with a cousin of his for the rest of the night.
This morning, he called and asked me if I was planning on heading over to the thrift store where I normally volunteer on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I told him that I was since as far as I knew, that place was still standing and had its power. He then asked if I could meet up with him at his cousin’s place instead. I said I had to make sure that the other colleague that’d be on duty today and, aside from me, was authorized to open the store, would be in a position to do that. She was. If anything, she had gone over to the store to make sure there was power. So I met up with Fiance. Poor guy was tired, stressed, etc. He was however, lucky enough to get an apartment in one of the non-damaged buildings. After seeing the new apartment, getting the keys for it, etc., he and I went to get some lunch. As we were walking, he was on the phone with someone, and some frat boys (he lives across the street from the local university campus if that tells you anything) shouted “Happy Tornado Day.” He yelled at them to F*ck off. (I more or less gave them a confused/”um, yeah, whatever” look.)
After lunch we were able to get a few things moved over to the new place. (And it turns out he wasn’t the only one moving either.) Supposedly he has until Friday (or worst case scenario Monday) to get everything moved. Hopefully, by the time I see him tomorrow (still going over to his place plus there’s a few errands he and I will be running together) he will have more stuff moved into the new place and be less stressed about the situation.
