It may seem a little silly to be posting about this on this board, but I am feeling in need of some support on this. I’ve actually been on the boards tonight trying to distract myself. Last night, one of FI’s best friends in addition to two others he was with were viciously attacked by a gang of thugs for no reason. Teeth were knocked out, one of them lost an ear, there are black eyes, and tons of stitches on faces. They were attacked from behind by about 7-9 teenagers with rocks. This, by the way, was only 2 blocks from the apartment building where we live (FI’s friend lives here too).
I just don’t understand how people can do something like this. These were KIDS. They didn’t even rob them! They just beat the living daylights out of them and left them there. There is no reason for this to have happened. I just feel so so so bad for FI’s friend, who I like very very much and is a great guy. Although I don’t know the other two friends he was with, I feel so horrible for them too.
I felt sick last night so Fiance stayed in with me. I had thought about going to visit my sister for the weekend, and if I had gone, Fiance was planning to be with his friend last night. I just get so sick thinking of what could’ve happened if I was far away and he was hurt like his friend. I am really traumatized and feel so down about the whole thing, especially with how close it was to our apartment.
To top it off, tomorrow is my birthday and Fiance is working overnight tonight so I am just sitting here alone feeling bad. I’ve sent a number of texts to FI’s friend to make sure he is okay and to see if he needs anything. He has sent appreciative texts but says he doesn’t need anything and that he’ll let me know. I just feel so useless about it and scared too.
Anyway, I just wanted to get that off my chest. Thanks for listening.

Oh my goodness, that’s horrible. I’m so glad they’re okay. Not that this is much consolation, but better rocks than guns… maybe it was some kind of dare or initiation ritual. How awful.
ETA: Definitely report it to the police if you haven’t already.

@Regina Phalange: I am too. I just feel like it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy or someone who gives back more to society 🙁 The stitches will come out, but his teeth were just knocked out and I think he is very embarrassed about it. He had to undergo 2 emergency root canals today to save some others. I just want to cry about it.
Thank you so much for your message.

@Regina Phalange: I think the police know because I know they were transported to the hospital by ambulance. I didn’t want to ask him because there was so much going on and I didn’t want to add to the stress today.

oh my god! i can’t believe how people are these days! Report it as soon as possible, did they identify the attackers?
I hope everything turns out ok 🙁

@Anamagana: Thanks 🙁 FI’s friend said it was just a group of teenagers laughing. They passed him on the street, then once he was past, he was hit from behind and barely remembers the whole thing until he was found bloodied. He said he didn’t pay much attention to them when they passed 🙁

Holy crap!I hope hes ok and they find out who did it. I dont understand why people just lash out like that, with no reason or purpose. I hope your FIs friend is ok and has a speedy recovery!

@family_girl: Thank you! I really appreciate the support and I know that the good vibes will help somehow. I spoke to him this morning–aside from only being allowed to eat soft foods for a few weeks because of his teeth, he is in pretty good spirits.

@chippybee: I can only relate with you Bee.
The same thing happened to my SO and 3 of his friends almost two years ago.
My fiancé had a fat lip and a black eye but one of his friends had a broken leg (those bast*rds jumped on his leg while he was laying on the curb), a broken nose and two black eyes.
It was awful and for absolutely no reason.
I’m sending positive thoughts your way as I know it takes a while to recover and overcome that feeling of fear and sickness to the stomach.
Good luck to all of you.

At least they are all alive, that’s always the main thing, after all.
But how traumatic! I can’t believe someone lost an ear. It’s barbaric. It being such a large group of kids, society must have failed them in a major way (if it was just one, I’d wonder if he was born with a damaged brain and prone to senseless violence). I’m guessing this relates to the economic situation and their families have it pretty bad…this is their frustration relief from what they may correctly feel are lives with little hope of anything but a dead end.
