So my FI’s wedding ring came in yesterday, and he was so excited! He has decided to wear it on his right hand up until the wedding, as a sort of “engagement” ring, which I think is adorable. I also think it’s a good thing because, as someone who does not wear any jewelry, it will give him a chance to get used to wearing something (even if on the “wrong” hand), and give him an opportunity to find out if that ring really feels comfortable to him.
Now the funny part – FI’s ring is a titanium replica of The One ring from LOTR! It has the elvish script engraved on it and everything. You know, “one ring to rule them all…” Super nerdy, I know, but that’s him. I only wish the inscription meant something a little more romantic, but oh well, it looks pretty cool.
So what do you think? Are we tempting fate by a) having THAT ring 😉 and b) him wearing it before the wedding?

That’s the coolest idea ever. I don’t think you’re tempting fate at all, lol, just don’t let him near any volcanoes :).

Nooooo. It’s just a ring. The emotions tied to it are the magic, not the ring in and of itself.

@Bubu82: I think the post all around is pretty awesome. I love that he had put so much thught into something like the ring, he obviously loves it and him wanting to wear it is so cute!

Darling Husband wanted to do the same thing, but then decided not too, because he didn’t want to mess it up for picture LOL. I think it’s cute!

I think it’s sweet. My best friend’s Darling Husband wore his ring before they were married, and on his wedding ring finger! He really liked it, and he just couldn’t wait to be married.
We actually just picked up FI’s ring, and he now wants to wear it. A month ago, he was saying ‘oh, I’ll wear it when we go out…’ to now wanting to wear it before we’re married. Boys! Haha, I’ll never figure them out!
And I don’t think you’re tempting fate by wearing the ONE ring. It’s fun that he likes LOTR…but I don’t think it’s cursed or anything. 🙂

Haha, it’s a fine idea. My husband wore his ring before I even had mine, though granted he wore it on his left hand. In fact, for a while there our roles were completely reversed as he wore an engagement ring and mine was at the jewelers for a few months have the wedding ring designed around it. It was interesting.
A friend of mine married a Chilean dude, and it’s actually tradition for both people to wear silver rings on their right hands before their wedding, at which time it’s moved to the left. He’s carrying on a fine tradition 🙂
Hehe. And it’s hilarious that it’s that ring.

I’m sorry to post this AFTER you’ve already got his ring in hand, but there’s a “One Ring” replica that changed the quote a bit to be more about eteranl love. I saw them first at the Texas Renaissance Festival.
“One ring to show our love. One ring to bind us. One ring to seal our love and forever to entwine us.”
Although, thinking about it, wouldn’t it read better “Two rings…?”

@Isilme: Haha, I agree – “two rings” would be better! I showed him one like that, with the modified poem, but he was all about the “real” One Ring. He’s a nerd, but he’s a stubborn nerd. 🙂
Thanks for the comments, ladies. I love that he’s wearing it now, too!!
