Reading this literally made me sick to my stomach.  It takes a very weak minded, repulsive person to prey on those with a mental handicap.  I am so sorry to hear about this.

Your story is heartbreaking, I am crying as I type, because I cannot fathom something so disgusting from people who are supposed to be caring for others.  I hope that you get some sort of justice for this.

@sablemuse:  What a horrible story. I’m so sorry your FI’s family have had to experience this.

I hope the fact that these people have been named means they will never work in this capacity again so nobody else has to suffer like your FI’s brother did.

@sablemuse:  Hugs< I can’t imagine what you’re growing through. My husband is HFA but since he is high-functioning he is able to be somewhat independent.

I know having autism and getting the help needed can be very very expensive and sometimes downright affordable. I hope your brother gets the help he needs from people who will have the patience and decency to treat him like any other human being.

By the way, I recently discovered an Autism advocacy group I like, called ASAN…it’s run by people with Autism, if you want to check it out maybe there are some resources that could help you and your family.

@sablemuse:  I am so sorry that you are dealing with this. I am not sure why someone who is capable of violence like this would choose a career to work with autistic folks. It requires a level of patience and a special personality to do that job, and clearly those responsible did not have it.

What I can’t understand is why a case can’t be pursued because he can’t “speak for himself.” What if a baby was attacked, or what about victims who are killed and thus unable to speak for themselves? The evidence should speak for them. Obviously he didn’t burn himself.

I can’t understand a system or a society that could let something like this happen. I recently read an article about a puppy who had all of his legs cut off and was left for dead. The bones started rotting and when he was found, he was put down. Human beings can be so cruel to innocents.
