I live RIGHT near fishkill….I pass it and am IN it everyday!

We are actually in the process of looking for rental townhomes right now until we have a little more downpayment!

  • The schools are great

  • Lots of shopping in Poughkeepsie/Wappingers Falls

  • Not a lot of crime at all

  • Townhomes are awesome….check out fox ridge, wellington ct, spruce ct, hemlock, walnut….theres a whole subdivision dedicated to those
  • The crime in beacon, stays in beacon… the townhomes I mentioned are split by Rt 84.

My fiance lives in Wappingers, and I’m across the river, and commute to Spring Valley

@BeautyBox:  Oh wow!  That’s great! I haven’t found a makeup artist yet and am verrrrrryy picky about my makeup! Maybe this is destiny hahaha

Fishkill is literally a commuters dream, 84 bring you to i-87, 684, taconic, 9a…there are endless ways to get to white plains!

My fiance and I looked into toll brothers, and I know the exact ones you’re talking about!  Those are on the other side of Rt 9, the ones I suggested are on the west side, either way, they are both great areas!

Fishkill woods is way outta our range!  When we’re ready to buy we’d probably stick to under $310k but those are lovely!

@BeautyBox:  Vassar and Saint Francis are great hospitals within minutes from eachother, they are about 15-20 mins north of Fishkill, though but I too have heard great things.

Putnam hospital my friend Joanna had her daughter there, and they were amazing, her daughter had complications with her urinary tract and kidneys, and they were wonderful.

@BeautyBox:  What negativity did you get?  People from westchester never really understand this area….they thinks it’s all farm land! It’s so false….they tend to exaggerate the truth as well

My Husband grew up there! He loved it. Lots of space and land.  We would love to move to that area but we are restricted on where we can live because of work. We are looking in Putnam most likely, we live in westchester now as well.

Are the people who are saying negative things from home (brooklyn)? People who live “over the bridge” don’t understand what the appeal would be for living up north a little bit.  Do what’s best for you.

The communte into the city will be long, so make sure you are okay with that first.

@BeautyBox:  White plains is just as bad as beacon…if not worse…honestly hearing crime in beacon isn’t common but not unheard of.  The area of fishkill you are in is about 10 minutes from anything remotely close to a bad area.

You are looking at east of rt 9….the rent and such is higher.  The communities you speak of are in AMAZING areas….my fiance is originally from Elmsford, and they moved to Wappingers to get away from the crap that was moving into the area…..drunken people leaving bottles everywhere, they didn’t feel safe, there were older mexican men sleeping outside his house…

And this was in a GOOD part of westchester, at the time…go there now and it’s nothing like it used to be.

He’s been up here for 8 or 9 years now.

Beacon is becoming a more artsy area, while still not the best of towns in the area…it is cleaning itself up, the areas I would worry about are main street, and surrounding.

I couldn’t think of a better town to live in, in the area and close enough to commute to work….we’re stuck on Fishkill!

Nightlife is good in Newburgh, the waterfront…or you can find things to do in Poughkeepsie…which has a waterfront bar as well (i used to work there)

@BeautyBox:  I grew up in Fishkill! Depending on which town homes you are looking at they are most likely built by the same builders who built our home. We live in a single family home a little bit north of Fishkill (LaGrange). However, I grew up in Fishkill and am a product of the local school district. My mom actually works at a cute little shop on Main St right in the village of Fishkill.

As far as the commute, my DH commutes back and forth to Elmsford NY which is straight down the Taconic, my DH is originally from LI so to him the commute is cake because there is rarely traffic and NO traffic like LI traffic! Also in Fishkill you are close to major highways and the train.

I honestly can’t say enough good things about the area. If you have any specific questions LMK. Also if you want to share the builder that you are looking at I can probably give you feedback on that too as we built in the area 2.5 years ago so that research is still fresh for me!

@BellaDee:  You’re right, the crime in Beacon stays in Beacon! Honestly, Beacon is a world away from Fishkill…not the same school district which is important.

@BeautyBox:  I just read your second post…Toll Brothers built our home too so I definitely have first hand experience w that!
