So my dress finally came in and I was so excited to go to the Bridal Salon and try it on. Really excited until I realized I have another dilemma!! To wear a slip or petticoat or not?? The dress is a mermaid and the slip really helps the bottom flare out and I love that. The downside is that the slip may be quite hot and my wedding is in August, a very hot month in Nashville. Also the petticoat slip thing makes wrinkles in the gown that I will worry about smoothing. So I need some help…which looks better… slip or no slip? Also if you are wearing a mermaid gown will you be wearing a slip?
No slip in the first picture but I am wearing one in the 2nd.

Personaly I would want it to flare out more dramatically because I really love the look of a true mermaid. In your case I think you should do whatever your going to be most comfortable in.

I feel like the dress without the slip looks more flowy and natural, and with the slip it looks very structured and almost “too perfect?” If that makes sense?
I think the slip might look nice for the formal pictures, but may be in the way and uncomfortable the rest of the night.
Just FYI, I’m wearing a fit and flare with no slip… seemed like too much clothing (and expence) for me. So I may be biased.
It’s a gorgeous dress, either way 🙂 Totaly jealous!

I went through the same thought process as you… wedding is near the end of July and it can get around 100 degrees here at that time. I do not do well in the heat so I didn’t want to deal with ANOTHER thing on top of my heavy dress to add to the heat. However, I decided to buy the mermaid slip from DB because it just made the dress look the way I truly envisioned it would. I think I’ll definitely wear it for the ceremony and photos, but might take it off for the reception.
I think you should get a slip too, it makes the dress look so amazing!

It’s hard to say… the bottom does look better with the slip but the wrinkles distract from the beauty of the dress. Is there a way to make the slip lay more flat or is there a different slip you can get? I would be concerned about the wrinkles showing in the wedding photos especially the candids where you may not be paying attention to smooth out the wrinkles.

I love your dress! I’d wear the slip, it flare’s out nicely at the bottom.
