Good morning bees!!
I just got a FitBit Charge HR and I LOOOOVE it! I live in NYC so its amazing to see how many steps I take just commuting to work. However, I feel like the calories burned is a little high. When I wake up in the am, I’ve already burned 300 calories since midnight? Does anyone have any experience with this? Does it sound accurate?

I know that it estimates your caloric burn based on your height, weight, and activity level when you are sleeping. Usually when I wake up in the morning, my calories burned is usually a little under 200. I have found the overall calorie burn for each day to be accurate though!

I love my Fitbit too! Your body burns calories even when you’re sleeping or just lazing around – your basal metabolic rate is the number of calories that your body burns even if you were bedridden all day. I think it’s based on your age and weight, mine is around 1500 calories/day. So waking up having burned some calories is reasonable. (Sidenote: NEVER eat fewer calories than your BMR, your body will literally go into starvation mode.)
ohhsnap: I’m glad to hear the calorie count is accurate! (I have a Fitbit Flex though.) I’m always excited to see I’m burning around 2400 calories per day, but I have to wonder if that’s true because I should be slimming down pretty quickly at that rate and I’m not losing a single thing. That’s a frustration for a different thread though.
