Fiance and I decided that during this last 4 months before our wedding, we will only drink alcohol 1 day a week (Friday or Saturday).  I’m not a huge fan of beer but I can definitely drink way too much sweet white wine, which is also loaded with calories.

I find that if I drink, it impacts my judgement and I’m more likely to eat unhealthy foods.  I feel like it also makes me lethargic the next day, and I already hate exercising, so I really need to not drink at all if I want to exercise daily.

@Pomapoo: Same here. Wine is my weakness. I’m only drinking it once a week (and in moderation) until the wedding. Everything else I just say no to. I also find that I eat unhealthy when I’ve been drinking and I love snacking so it can get bad!

I drink about 4-5 glasses of wine a week and go to the gym about 4 days a week. I notice that if I have more than 1 glass of wine, it affects me at the gym the next day. I feel sluggish, and have a much harder time getting through the workout.

For example, on Tuesday night we went to a bar to watch a football game. I had two vokda-cranberry drinks and yesterday I was on the elliptical for only 30 minutes before I felt like I was dying. I managed to make it 35 total minutes. Normally I can do 45 minutes before I start feeling tired.

When I do drink, I try to only have more than 1 drink on a weekend night when I know I won’t be going to the gym the next day.

I love beer.. and worst of all IPA’s .. I recently got back on the workout routine.. I plan on cutting back a lot. Were going out to a bar tomorrow night and instead of having my usual 2 beers a friday night I will only have 1. Not much of a difference but something is something.

Sometimes we would drink friday and saturday too.. I am going to limit myself to only once a week and only one!

I rarely do. I will (maybe) when I’m meeting friends for lunch/dinner but with me being so busy doing everything, that’s rare too.

I’m really trying to cut out everything that leads to wrong judgements on other food…for example, alcohol = greasy food, candy = overload, and too much coffee each week = unneeded pasteries. At least, that’s for me.

I try and stick to drinks like vodka and club soda, which has (I think) zero carbs and is one of the most low cal mixed drinks. I stay away from beer, pina coladas, rum & coke (altho diet coke is okay), etc. I do drink wine, but I tend to be pretty good about limiiting myself to a glass or two–any more than that and I get really sleepy!

I’ve been cutting down significantly and I must admit it’s helped. That said, I’m not willing to significantly change my lifestyle in order to be skinny – e.g. I won’t stop going to happy hours with friends, etc… I order less and sip – and try to go with drinks that have less calories than my usual beer selection.

I barely ever drink…maybe once a month if that. I don’t enjoy beer/wine enough to just casually have a glass with dinner or whatever. When I do drink, I make it count, lol. And then I feel like death the next day. My drink of choice is gin and tonic.

I work out almost every day and I have wine with dinner / other alcohol more days than not.  Most days it’ll just be a glass or two of wine, but on weekends I will drink more… and if we go to a beer bar or somewhere with tasty cocktails I’ll drink that too.

I’ve found that it doesn’t really affect my fitness level as long as I’m drinking fairly moderately (not enough to feel it the next day).  I also don’t seem to gain weight from it… maybe I’d lose a couple pounds if I stopped drinking, but I’m already pretty flush to my frame size and have more excess muscle than excess fat so I don’t particularly want to lose any weight.  Also, If I don’t drink at all, I actually find that my digestion slows down and I get bloated and er… backed up.  I’m not quite sure why, but I’ve noticed a definite connection there over the past few years… maybe it’s a lucky genetic quirk.  Everyone in my family is a serious exerciser and a serious drinker.

No, but not because of fitness or religious reasons. I lack the enzymes necessary to detox alcohol and thus I get violently ill from even one drink!

I do, but only on the weekends and usually a glass or two of red wine.  I can’t stay away from a good bottle of red wine!  It doesn’t impact my weight too much unless I go out and drink stuff I don’t normally and then go to Taco Bell afterwards!!!

@happyb:  Lol.  Apparently my digestive system and metabolism operate according to entirely different rules than everyone else’s.  It’s not that I’m one of those super skinny people who can’t gain weight, I’m just weird.

I think for most people though a moderate amount of alcohol once or twice a week (particularly wine, but I also may say that because I like it the best) isn’t going to be that huge an issue unless you are trying to stay below your body’s natural weight.

I go to the gym 5-6 days a week, and have maybe one drink a week, usually white wine.
