Ok, I have a question for you ladies! Background info – my wedding is June 7, but it’s out of town and I’m leaving May 30th – so that’s my deadline for when the dress needs to be done. I just called to book my first fitting appointment, thinking I’d schedule it end of March/early April, but I panicked when she asked me when I want to come in and said “uh, next week?” WTF brain! So now I have an appointment for next Thursday, and that puts me at 2.5 months out.
So my question – is that crazy early? I’m not planning on losing any weight before the date, and my dress doesn’t need to be hemmed, just taken in. That said, I don’t have my wedding shoes yet (they’ve been ordered but not coming in until the end of the month). Should I call back and reschedule while admitting to not having any control over what comes out of my mouth, or will this date be okay?
Bride-brain is a very real condition, ladies. Yikes.

@jaykwellan: I think that’s probably ok. I got married June 4th, and I think I started mid April, but that’s when I got my dress and it was a little crunched. I think March is probably ideal.

@jaykwellan: Date twin ๐
I had my initial fitting in December, have my second fitting booked for April 8 and my final fitting booked for May 20. This does seem really early, but if your weight doesn’t fluctuate much, you will be fine. Hope that helps ๐

Date twin here too! I was thinking about when to schedule my first fitting. I’m just itching to cross more things off my list and figured that would be an easy one. I’m literally the exact same weight as the day I ordered my dress (nearly a year ago now) so I doubt it’ll change much in the next 3 months. I was wondering if next week was too soon but it sounds like it’s not!

@jaykwellan: How many fittings are you having? The place where I got my gown does 3 fittings. My wedding date is July 5 and my first fitting is April 26.

I think it depends on how much you are having done, which might be why they scheduled it so far out…i had to have mine turned into a sweetheart neckline, so they started that earlier, hemming, taking in/letting out and bustle can wait till last minute but dramatic changes take more time. Just tell them if you are still losing/gaining weight so they are able to anticipate how much work is ahead of them, it is prime wedding season!

My fitting is next week for my June 21st wedding! The consultant actually had it scheduled for this week but I changed it. I do think it’s too soon, but apparently the consultant says it’s normal.

We’re date twins and I have my first fitting this Thursday, actually. Normally I would tell you to wait until you have your shoes, but if you’re sure it doesn’t need to be hemmed, I guess there’s no harm in going before then. My appointment was originally scheduled for April 12th, but I’m having a mild case of dress regret so I wanted to go sooner and they obliged. Good luck!!!

There’s nothing wrong with getting it done early, especially if you aren’t planning on losing weight!
I had my first fitting around Christmas because my seamstress is in VT near where my parents live, and I only get up there about once a month (or less). I’m not planning on losing weight, so my seamstress said there’s no problem with starting early! My second fitting is this weekend and my last is Memorial Day weekend (my wedding is 6/14).
It’s actually a good thing I started early because my seamstress broke her leg skiing last month, so she’s a little slower than usual at the moment!!!

My wedding is in August, my first fitting was in December, my second is next week, and my third will be at the end of May. My dress needed a lot of work though so we started early. You should be fine!

jaykwellan: I don’t think it will be a problem since next week is already mid-March. My first fitting is March 28 but when I called they said anytime would be fine since this is about when first fittings should start. ๐

date twin! I am going for my first one in one week from today! i think it is fine because they are doing some things to my dress that wont change between now and then like shortening it and bustling it… the smaller finicky fixes with weight changes can happen later on ๐
I think it will be fine because you will give yourself lots of time not to worry about it
