@BrandNewBride:  I’m 5’7 too and I always think its impossible to get down to your weight.  I’m currently in the 160’s but would love to lose another 10 – 15lbs.  Any before and after pics you’d like to share with me for some motivation?

@skippydarling:  Start couch to 5k and then bridge to 10k. If you can already run 6 miles, run an hour a day, 5 days a week. Do that with body pump (or weight lifting) 2 times a week.

For food, watch what you eat. If there are more than 5 ingredients, don’t touch it. If you eat natural foods (rice, beans, veggies, fruit, milk, cheese, and meat), while running, you will drop the weight easily.

I’ve had really good success with Weight Watchers, as long as I stick to the plan.

I lost 20 pounds in 3 months in 2010/2011, became a Lifetime Member by maintaining for another 6 weeks, and then fell in love and off of the wagon…

Joined again 7 weeks ago and just reached my new goal weight last week (lost 12 pounds to go from 150 to 138).  Now to maintain!  Thank goodness Lifetime members get free tracking as long as they get weighed once a month and are within 2 pounds of their goal weight.

It works a lot more quickly if you exercise, too, of course.  I’ve been doing C25K, pole dancing, yoga, and strength training classes, and we’ve been going on 5-8 mile hikes almost every weekend.  But, I did most of my original weight loss mostly on calorie restriction alone.

Basically, it works, and I highly recommend it.

@skippydarling:  I haven’t read any of the replies but I suggest My Fitness Pal to watch your calories but also to make sure you’re not going too low in calories which is easy to do sometimes when you are trying to “diet”.  The gym/exercise definitely helps to get your metabolism going, but in my experience and from what I’ve read losing weight is at least 80% nutrition.  You have to watch your calories and they also have to be a majority of “good” calories – meaning getting plenty of lean protein, fruits, veggies and whole grains – not 1200 calories of junk.

Also – 30 day shred by Jillian Michaels tones you really fast!  I’ve seen results from just doing it 5 times so far (ridiculous but it’s true!).  It really tightens things up, so even if you’re not losing weight, you look smaller.

I’ve been doing Weight Watchers and I have lost 45 lbs so far, and I lost almost 14 lbs in the first month (I had a lot more than you to lose though).  I’m now down to my last 25 lbs to lose and I’m finding it harder, but if you haven’t been eating great and not exercising, by doing those things I’m sure you will get great results initially as you lose some water weight in the beginning as well. That will keep you motivated to keep going to reach your goal.

Oh, and I HIGHLY recommend Weight Watchers as well – it’s been the best decision I’ve made other than saying yes to my Fiance Laughing

Good luck!

@deetroitwhat:  I second the DASH diet! I worked with a few physicians for 5 years that swear by DASH, and recommend it to their patients. Nearly all of our patients are elderly, and have a hard time exercising for proper cardio to be fit in with diet due to medical issues.                   The doctor I worked with had issues with going vegan, and had a hard time keeping with weight watchers.

OP: I’m here to help you! I love motivating people to eat right and keep fit/healthy. I think we should create a FB group to keep for moral support for ‘sweating for the wedding!’

I haven’t read all the responses, so I apologize if I’m repeating, but Jillian Michaels DVDs are fantastic. Start with the 30 day shred and eat clean and you’ll see results 🙂 good luck

@xoxovmarie:  I was so embarassed by my weight that there is actually a two YEAR window where there is ONE picture of me (and just of my face–I’m clearly the one in the middle). I was about 170lbs in this picture…

Then here’s me at 145-ish (I think I was in denial that I had re-gained some weight and was closer to 150-ish)

And me at about 130, and 5 months pregnant! Afrer having completed a half marathon

@skippydarling:  I didn’t see if anyone mentioned this yet or not, but I would suggest joining MyFitnessPal. It’s really helpful for logging calories, and the forums are really friendly and helpful for those who are new. Given that you have access to a gym, they would have some good suggestions. I joined back in June so that I could learn to be healthy and lose a few pounds, and I’ve really enjoyed it!

Diet and be relentless.  I just had my reception 2 days ago.  At the beginning of August I started a really tough eating regime – no soy, dairy, grains, sugar, alcohol.  I did that for 30 days and mostly followed it for the 3 weeks leading up to my reception.  It’s tough but it means you eat a lot of fruit, veggies, lean meat and nuts.

I hadn’t seen my in-laws since March and everyone kept commenting on how much weight I lost.  My dress was even a bit loose.

oh my gosh you have PLENTY of time! I wasn’t fitting in my dress and needed to loose 5-8 lbs at least before my final fitting. I had seriously 3 1/2 weeks to get my act together.

Drinking water, changing my eating habits (cutting sugars and carbs…but not completely) and hitting the gym at least 5-6 times a week. During the week I had 1 hr for lunch so I would go to the gym for 35 mins and run in intervals.Any cardio is good cardio! 🙂

Lots of great advice here on this thread!

You can totally make it. I did and I had 3 weeks! lol
