I was on a student programming board when I was in college, and we got a huge group of people to do the “lean wit it rock wit it” in the center of our campus at noon. We had someone waiting with the music and speakers there to prompt everyone. It was awesome! We texted everyone reminders, and it was hilarious!!

At a student programming conference I went to one time, we also all got a flash mob text at a formal dinner to jump on top of the tables at a certain time. Everyone did it, and the speaker at the event was left just standing there in confusion.

You’re making me miss the good ol’ days! ๐Ÿ™‚

I got caught in one a year and a half or so ago when I lived in Philly. It wasn’t one of the fun awesome ones where people break into song or dance or do anything like that. It was a mass of rowdy teenagers that converged (I think I read it was set up on Facebook or Twitter) all up and down one of the main streets in the city. Like over a thousand of them, yelling and jumping on things (like cars). I was walking to the subway, and have never wanted to be off a street any faster. The next weekend they had cops all up and down Broad St, but I know it happened a couple more times during the year. Not fun.

I was super-duper sad that I missed a flashmob in the student center at school. I didn’t even know it happened till about a week later, that how out of touch I am within my little grad school bubble Undecided

I would be so excited to be able to be in one!

I haven’t but have had friends that had on campus.

This one was last year is a Michael Jackson Tribute organized as some seniors’ last hurrah.

And this one was done by Sing Alliance (musical theatre group on campus) to Shakira’s Waka Waka last week.

@UpstateCait: Soooo bizarre that this got brought up! My cousin had posted something on facebook today saying “I would be really entertained right about now if a flash mob broke out somewhere at school righhhhtt nowww! Nope, damn.” How funny. I think they’re super cool – there are some really organized ones too!

I wanted to try to do one at my wedding. Sadly our wedding party was not really into it, and we didn’t want to stress them out. And then the closer it got to the wedding date the more I cut out everything that could stress ME out. So, you know. I do agree they are awesome though!

p.s. isn’t modern family the best?

There was one at Uconn this time last year! A lot of people I know were there, but not me!
