Darling Husband and I ride his motorcycle.. We GREATLY enjoy it. Until someone flicks *lit* cigarette butt out the window…
I am not a smoker. I will never smoke. Darling Husband does not smoke. He will never smoke. We have both, in our pasts, dated smokers.. BLEH!
This morning on my drive to work (in my car, I do not have my own motorcycle) someone flicked a butt out their car window, and it had enough under it to land on my windshield (this has happened before).. The FIRST thing to go through my mind? What if Darling Husband and I (or just Darling Husband for that matter) had been on the motorcycle? That would have hit him! That would have burned him! That could have lead to a REALLY bad accident!!!
I doubt I’ll be able to, but is there anything that can be done to STOP (or lower the likeliness of) this??! It is SOO dangerous! Especially in the summer where motorcycles are everywhere!!
Just the thought of that happening with just one, or both of us on the bike petrifies me.. I know you should fear the road while you are on a motorcycle (we give it it’s respect), but having the hazard of a flying, lit, cigarette butt, and knowing it is enough to kill you, really puts things into a much more terrifying perspective..
Sorry for the stupid vent, but this really REALLY ticked me off this morning…

@MrsPaperFlowers: That infuriates me too. Technically it’s littering, but I’ve never seen a cop pull someone over for it.

I read someone’s comment somewhere (probably Reddit) about how a guy was smoking in his car with the window open, and he pulled up next to the guy at a red light on a motorcycle. The smoker looked at him, and then flicked the butt out the window. It landed on one of the folds of the motorcyclist’s expensive leather jacket. The motorcyclist picked up the cigarette and threw it into the empty passenger seat of the smoker’s car, and the smoker freaked the hell out.
I don’t understand why he thought that flicking the butt at the motorcyclist was fine.

I’m always scared one is going to fly in my window as I’m driving. I’ve had lit ciggies hit my closed (thank god) window before and it just freaks me out.. I don’t really have any advice but, I know how you feel.
We have a pick up truck and I’ve found cigarette butts in the bed of the truck in past too.. And they aren’t from me or my fam!
..Smoking its totally gross

@MrsPaperFlowers: I don’t have any advice on how to prevent this from happening, but I know how annoying it is. In my state, it is against the law to throw out your cigarettes. It’s considered littering. Maybe call around and see if it’s against the law in your area, and get the person’s license plate # and file a complaint or something-I don’t know. Good luck!

I hate it when people do this. So nasty. Fiance is a motorcycle rider, too, and though he wears full gear, it still worries me that something will hit him.

I hate this as well, not only from the car window, but just tossing butts in general.
Darling Husband and I were stuck at a traffic light one day, when a pedestrian flicked his cigarette butt on the ground, Darling Husband rolled down his window and shouted at the guy, “hey, you dropped something!” The guy turned around and looked all around for what he dropped, so he asked what it was, and Darling Husband told him that his butt should be in the garbage not on the ground. The guy flipped him off and kept walking. When Darling Husband opened the car door, the guy ran back, picked up the butt and threw it in the trash!
I wish more people would stand up and do this, it disgusts me!

Darling Husband used to smoke in his car and he kept a little ash tray thing that was like a flower pot with a tiny hole in the top in his cupholder. But before he had that, he would occasionally just flick them out the window. I think it’s just not really something he even thought about, which is weird because he also owned and rode a motorcycle. So there really isn’t anything to do about it, sadly. It is definitely littering but cops wont pull you over for it unless they already suspect you of drunk driving or something. It’s not a big enough offense for them to ticket just on that.

@s2bmrscook: My aunt got pulled over for it and a $500 littering ticket!

@s2bmrscook: It’s littering here too, but I’ve never seen anything done about it 🙁
@strawbs: GO MOTORCYCLE DRIVER!! WOOT!
@Stephville: That scares me too! Meh!
@BakerBee16: It is littering here too, I’ve tried that before, but they have said “without video evidance, there is nothing we can do”.. UHH WUT!?
@vorpalette: We wear riding jackets, but not pants (we wear jeans).. We ride on a “rocket” so full riding gear (especially for a passenger) is very cubersome for both riders.. If I were to wear full gear (IE: padded pants), Darling Husband would continuously bump my knees beacuse of how tall he is… I wish we could wear full gear, but we NEVER go sans-helmet.. Even with full gear, an accident can still really mangle you..

Something I worry about -cause we drive a convertible.

This bothers me so much too. We had drought conditions here last summer and this was the cause of a few thankfully minor fires along roadways. Had those fires not have been caught and contained very quickly though…just think of the damage they could have done.

People are so inconsiderate. Also I hate driving behind a car where the person is smoking. My AC just sucks all the smoke up and shoots it into my car. GROSS.
Also, Fiance smokes and it’s disgusting.

My friend got burned on her chest when someone threw out a lit cigarette butt and it flew into her open window while she was driving. She still has the scar. I don’t mind smokers but I hate assholes.

Some smokers are idiots. So many do this in our apartment building. People have been burned when they’ve been standing on the ground, and there was a fire in the complex that was started by a tossed cigarette. When you’re really high up you have no clue where it will land!
Darling Husband and I have also had butts and cigarette packages show up on our patio. It’s so gross!
