Bees, I cannot begin to express to you how big of a deal this is to me. Radiohead is the band of my life, and they are also the reason my future husband even met in the first place. Seeing them in Europe is #3 on my bucket list, right behind seeing them in a small, intimate venue (#2) and personally speaking with Thom Yorke (#1).
We just bought tickets this morning to their quickly-selling-out European tour (we missed their Rome date by about 10 seconds) and will be seeing them in Florence while on our honeymoon!!! I cannot believe it. I’m so excited, I just had to share with someone!!!! This is such a big deal to me and I’m just kind of all over the place…obviously.
So, anyone been to Florence? I’ve been to Rome before, and Fiance wants to take the train down for a couple days, but I’d like to spend some time in Florence too. Any recommendations???

How exciting!! That sounds like a real dream honeymoon. Congrats!
If you saw them in a small, intimate venue in Italy and got to speak to Thom Yorke all in the same night, you would be able to cross off 1-3 on your bucket list! Whooo!

@Ms.Pink: Pretty sure I’d actually kick the bucket if all three happened in succession 😉
Thanks girls! I’m not sure its even really hit me yet that this is happening.

@KristenGotMarried: Love your plans! Have a great time. I’ve been to Italy (Venice, Florence and Siena) and highly recommend Siena if you are taking the train to south to Rome anyhow. I studied about Siena in high school and it was on my bucket list to go there. 😉 Siena is a little south west of Florence, about a 1.5 – 2 hrs. train ride through the beautiful countryside. Siena is a gorgeous, friendly city surrounded by an ancient wall that once protected the city. You can still see slots for archers, etc. Don’t bother renting a car here — the roads are winding, and the drivers are crazy fast, second only to the crazy traffic in Rome! Much better to take the train to the city, and once you’re there, walk around or take a taxi. Siena is famous for its Palio horse race in the main piazza of the city (featured at the start of the latest James Bond movie) and the city is divided into sections of teams. For instance, you walk into the Onda “Wave” team section, you’ll see a fountain with a dolphin in it and dolphin sconces lining the street. Each section is represented by a horse and a jockey. Families are born into their section. There are allies and enemy teams! The whole race has a very interesting history and is not a reenactment, it is the real deal! If you’re lucky enough to travel there in July or August, you may see the race or events leading up to it.
Have a wonderful honeymoon!

Florence and Rome two of our honeymoon destinations. We prefer Florence. Florence is smaller, easier to get around and more relaxing atmosphere. For us, we had better luck with food in random restaurants in Florence compare to Rome.

In March of 1996, I saw Radiohead at The Wiltern in Los Angeles. After the show I was standing at the bar below the theatre and Thom Yorke was RIGHT beside me. I was stunned, but managed to have a brief conversation with him and even got a hug from him until other people, including my stupid ex-husband, realized who it was. That was incredible! Then, right before OK Computer was released we saw them at The Troubador. It was fairly intimate, I think less than 400 people there and we were super close to the band, so that was pretty amazing. I would love to see them in Europe! I’m super jealous, so yay for you!

@KristenGotMarried: That’s awesome! I’m so jealous! I love Radiohead!
While in Florence, I’d recommend going to see Michelangelo’s David. It really is a great work of art. I’d also recommend going shopping on the Ponte Vecchio.
While in Italy, be sure to eat lots of gelato! Try all the unusual flavours. My favourites are stracciatella, pistachio, and cinnamon.

@Miss Starlet: My jaw just dropped!! I would’ve lost my shit… good for you!!!!!! I would love to just chat with him for a split second. Can’t even imagine. Especially around the time of OK Computer, which is my favorite album of all time and was the soundtrack to a tour of Europe when I was 17.
Okay now I sound like a psycho stalker. This is just so exciting.
@bookworm88: I saw them at Lolla too! Then turned right around, flew home to Columbus and drove up to Cleveland to see them three days later! I loved the unexpected fireworks from the baseball stadium at Lolla… but have to admit that seeing them at Blossom, in much better seats, under a roof, was way better.
