Anyone have any suggestions for an affordable wedding venue in the Florida Keys? For approximately 40 people that allows us to do our own catering. We’ve been looking at setting up at a vacation rental, but all that I’ve found require a week long stay which gets to be too expensive (1,000 or more a night, plus cleaning and other miscellanious fees really adds up). Any suggestions would be much appreciated! We have been searching for a local venue around Crystal River, Florida for months but could not find one to meet our needs so decided to look into a smaller destination wedding instead.

What type of venue are you looking for? There are lots of options in key west. Indoor/outdoor? On the water? What do you consider affordable? I had my reception at the Hyatt and had ~50 people

What venues have you been looking at? We would like to get married in the Keys as well and have run into the same issue. Cheers!

Unfortunately, there are not many affordable options for anything in the Keys. You could try off-season where rentals are generally less expensive and have shorter minimum-night stays. Stay away from any holiday or three-day weekends, as they have longer minimum stays. I’m not sure if it allows you to do your own catering, but Fort Zacharey State Park in Key West may be an affordable option. Or look at the upper Keys such as Key Largo. Or a restuarant reception may be a more affordable option once you factor in all the rental fees you’ll need to host a wedding at a private property.

I disagree that there is nothing affordable in the florida keys. I watch weddings down here every day if the week, there is probably something for every budget. From very small on the beach, to lavish ballrooms. I am not sure about self catering which I would think would be very hard to do down here. If anyone wants info, I would be happy to share based upon my experience and knowledge of key west

Little Conch Key! You can bring in your own catering and alcohol (but you also have to bring in all your own rentals – tables, chairs, etc.) http://www.conchkeycottagesfloridakeys.com/
The island sleeps around 50 people 🙂
