I’m thinking about getting certified and taking classes to be a HS physics teacher.. I’ve been job hunting in FL and I’ve been thinking more and more that I want to teach (When I was in the process of leaving the Navy my temporary job was tutoring kids in math at the local h.s.) My question is, whats the easiest way to get certified? Do you know of any programs that are good? Where should I even start?

I’m in Georgia, but I know that here, physics teachers are golden–it’s a super-high-need area. Generally the state will have some kind of alternative certification path for those who already have a strong background in the subject they want to teach; try Googling “Florida alternative teacher certification”. Or you can go through a university program. Either way, it will probably take two years. However, if you are in a certification program and a school wants to hire you, they can generally do so even if you don’t have certification yet as long as you’re working toward it.
