IMO you should meet with another florist.  I left my first appointment knowing exactly how many flowers we would need, which types she would use and a written estimate.  I would be hesitant to move forward with what sounds like a wishy-washy vendor.  You need someone who can give you more guidance.

When planning my wedding I found that some vendors were good at suggesting and directing, while others were poor in this area.  My sister and I went to the same florist, and I went in with a clear idea of what I wanted exactly, and was able to hammer things out and get a price very quickly.  My sister had no idea what she wanted, and I could feel the florist getting a bit frustrated.  I think often vendors are used to brides that have a good idea as to what they want going into the meeting.  Did you bring pictures specifically of flowers you would like?  Were the price ranges reasonable?  Did you like the work the florist has done previously?

I think if you really liked everything else about the florist, I would do some research online to figure out what might work for you.  If you weren’t really struck by them at all, I’d shop around more.  Good luck!

My first experience in meeting with a florist was similar to yours, and I figured this is just how it is…I have to make the decisions.  Then I met with the florist we are using, and she was incredibly creatively suggestive in ways to get the look I wanted without breaking the bank, and was able to suggest alternatives that would allow me to get even more flowers into the initial budget.  I would maybe meet with one other person to see if you feel any differently.  Although if you already know that this is the only floriest in your area that can meet your budget, then maybe get some books from the library, study up, and guide her.

I just know nothing about flowers, so I was really looking for someone that could help me figure out what worked best, and not someone that just wanted me to direct them.  So I feel your pain.

Hmm, since you were so specific it’s weird that they weren’t more on the ball.  Do you think that you could do some stuff over the phone or e-mail since it’s far away?
