I have put out a few feelers to florists in my area – so far 3 of them have responded that they are already booked for my wedding date – April 2012. I was surprised – I thought that florists could take a few bookings for each day. I did book many other things really early (venue, photographer, beautician), but thought things like florist and bakery was one of those things that could be done just a few months out. I’m sure I’ll find someone but obviously not my first few choices.
Is this unusual or similar to what you have experienced?
I’ve been considering doing potted plants for my centerpieces anyways, which I think I can do with the help of my mom. I’ve already made non-floral things for the wedding party. Maybe it’s a sign to tell me to move forward with the potted plants 🙂

I don’t know anything about florists but potted plants ROCK! plus they’re something you can keep after your ceremony and start a beautiful garden with =D

Yep – we pretty much booked all our vendors at a year out. We’re using a smaller florist and it’s pretty much just her. Same thing with our cake – it’s a baker who works out of her home (does amazing work though) and she will only do one wedding cake per weekend.

Yeah pretty typical these days. I just booked my florist last week (9 months ahead).
Oh and potted plants could look great. Definitely post photos. 🙂

Thanks for the feedback – I guess I need to get things moving more than I have! We were still working through the budget, so I didn’t really want to reach out to other vendors until we had that all settled.
I think potted plants would look good – especially since we are trying to do a sprintime theme. This way, people can just take home plants if they want – and any left overs can go into our garden.

April is a busy time for weddings in New Orleans, so I booked mine last month. I would try to book as many of your vendors as possible just to save the date. You can always discuss particulars with them later as long as you make sure they are in your price range.
