Hello Bees! I need your advice!
Here’s the situation:
I am the Maid/Matron of Honor in my best friend’s wedding and am in charge of ordering the flowers for her wedding. A month ago I ordered 200 medium stemmed Sensual Burnt Orange Roses (picture 1) from Fiftyflowers.com. (The wedding colors are burnt orange and chocolate).
The wedding is on October 9, 2010 so I made the delivery date October 7, 2010 per the website’s instructions. So, TODAY (September 29, 2010) a fiftyflowers.com rep called and said they have ONLY 2 types of orange roses available and both are LIGHT orange (picture 2 and 3). Both are terrible alternatives given the wedding colors and fiftyflowers.com is not offering a refund or any other options! Has anyone else had a similar experience? I haven’t told the bride yet because I was hoping to take care of this today without alarming her, but at this point I am not sure what else I can do!
ANY advice would be greatly appreciated!
WARNING: I have seen only rave reviews regarding fiftyflowers.com on weddingbee, but please beware that the reps seem unapologetic and unwilling to offer a refund for a product I DON’T want!!! The company is only offering a substitution that is not even close to the original color I ordered!

Hmmm….how set on roses is your friend? If she is not dead set on having roses, maybe you can work with fityflowers to get a different flower in the burnt orange color (which is gorgeous by the way). Here are a couple of options from fifty flowers:

What about cream roses? I know that it’s not a perfect solution, but it would go with the colours and is better than losing your money.

you could always use floral spray. Florists use it when the colors aren’t exactly what the bride is looking for, because sometimes they just aren’t available. It comes in a can like spray paint but is for flowers, comes in all different colors. I actually used it a few years ago for my friends wedding, she wanted blue flowers and was going to use really bad fake ones because of budget. So I did her bouquet as a gift out of white roses and sprayed them blue. She loved it!

on a completely separate note, i cant believe the bride delegated the entire floral arrangements to her moh….

By any chance, is the second rose you pictured called “Cherry Brandy”? I used them for my wedding and absolutley loved them! My main color was chocolate and I used lots of other fall colors as accents. But, the cherry brandy roses definitley looked good with the chocolate. You may want to look at some more pictures and see if they may possibly work. Are they the only flowers you are going to use or just part of a mixture of roses. I’ve attached two pictures of cherry brandy roses from my wedding… one is a close up the other you can see some in the altar flowers.

Other than the suggestions already mentioned, maybe a combo of the darker of the two light options and cream would work (if set on roses). Then you could also order some orange hypericum berries or something else to add some orange in. Or hope your bride is flexible. Regardless, I think you need to alarm her. I’d much rather know what’s going on and make the decision as to what to do now. And that way you won’t get blamed for anything.

@Mrs. Meowerson: Maybe the Maid/Matron of Honor offered. Maybe the Maid/Matron of Honor is actually a florist or used to be a florist. Maybe the Maid/Matron of Honor actually only ordered the flowers and the bride and the other BM’s are going to help.

@JamaciaBride ~ Thank you for your advice! The bride wants to do a pave shape and roses are the easiest to work with for me (personally). I LOVE tulips and lilies and will ask the bride if she is flexible with her bouquet and centerpiece shape.
@red_pepper_gal ~ I will definitely ask the bride if she is comfortable changing to cream, but I have a feeling she has her heart set on burnt orange and MAY settle for another shade of orange. We will see when she calls me back… thank you!
@Pinkb ~ GREAt suggestion and I will look into this! Thank you so much!

@Ms. Meowerson ~ I offered to help the bride order and arrange since I have a license in ikebana (types of floral arranging) and just generally like working with flowers. She has been on her on her own planning the entire wedding and I just thought I could take this off her plate…. Until now it has been smooth sailing!!! 🙂
@PumpkinSpiceChai ~ THANK YOU so much for the pictures of the Cherry Brandy Roses! They are beautiful! I think I will do half the order in the Cherry Brandy and half the order in something else (Wow Salmon Dark Orange). Much appreciated!
@Candicemcc ~ I took your advice and called the bride. She was very understanding and just said, “I trusts you with this decision”. So, fingers crossed I find something she will love just as much as the original order! 🙂
@bRooklynRocks ~ I did offer to order and arrange the flowers and although I am not a florist ~ I pretend to be one 😛 ~ Just love flowers!

@HapaBride: Glad I could help! Please post pictures of the flowers after the wedding. I’d love to see how they turn out!

As a florist, I’ll just tell you what I would personally do in this situation…….
I think that one of the lighter orange roses could work if you chose another flower that would accent it. I think that the lilies that JamaicaBride posted would work perfectly, as well as hypericum berries. I wouldn’t really try to paint the flowers unless you were really desperate. It generally doesn’t turn out the best.
What kind of centerpieces are you doing? Will they be in a vase or in foam? How many tables will you have to do?
