I have never heard of this. I am in Michigan and I had a consultation with 4 different florists and none of them charged me anything.

Yikes, uh . . . no.  But I’m not going through a florist for my flowers, so I don’t know, maybe that’s standard.  Have you tried calling around to some other florists?  That seems high for just a consultation.

I have never heard of this. I would absolutely not pay. If they want your business they should be willing to sit down and discuss options with you without a fee. I would find someone else.

Try calling a few different places in your area and see what they say about that.

I’ve never heard of that before. There was one florist that wouldn’t give a quote until you booked them – so I just didn’t ever meet with them. That sounds out of the ordinary and I would look elsewhere.

That seems a little crazy to me! I would look at other florists, and skip that one for now. $50 is a lot of money just to talk ideas.

I’ve never heard of this happening, and honestly wouldn’t go to the florist just because of that.

Occasionally I would see florist charging that fee but sometimes they say the fee will go to your flowers once you book with them. But I don’t think it’s an industry norm so I normally just stay away from them.

Same reason I won’t go to bridal shop that charges “fitting fee”.

Yes, I have heard of it. One place here in Chicago said that they have a $35 consultation fee that I can use towards the cost of the flowers if I booked them. I haven’t liked a lot of the florists I have worked with yet, so that seems like a waste of $35.

Also, a different florist had $50/per half hour fee after the first consultation if I wanted to talk about my flowers or make changes.

I have never heard of a business requiring a fee for a consultation. On that alone I wouldn’t use them…
