I have adorable identical twin cousins who I would love to have as my flower girls. The problem is, by the time my wedding is, next May, they would be ten years old. Is ten an appropriate age for flower girls? Also, I would really prefer not to have them as junior bridesmaids because then I would have to include all five of my younger cousins!

Yes, wonderful age! Go for it.

I say ask them and see what they want! My little cousin is 9 and she is bursting to be our flower girl – in two years! If she still wants to, I’m all for it. But I won’t be upset if she changes her mind.

I’ve usually seen recommended age ranges of 4 – 8 for flower girls and 8 – 14 for junior bridesmaids. If you’re going to include the girls no matter what, maybe you could ask what they prefer (or ask their mother perhaps).

My neice is 9 1/2 when we get married next month and she is so excited to be a flower girl. I don’t think it matters what the age.

My niece was 10 for our wedding. She really wanted to be a flower girl and her mom was excited about it too. I think people get wrapped up in this idea of “cutesy little girl too small to hold the giant basket of flowers” thing. I was told that she would be too old, but you know what? She looked so pretty, she had SO MUCH fun! She was escorted by my nephew (also 10). The two of them were able to wrangle the younger kids behind them (kids are so much more willing to follow other kids!). So I say go for it!

I’ve been to weddings with 9 and 10 year old flower girls, and they were definitely cute! Our flower girl is going to be 8. I think when they’re a bit older they understand more and get excited. Plus there is less worry of them having a tantrum! Go for it!
