Badnesa49r:  I think it depends on the girl. If she is young for her age, she may prefer to be a flower girl.

Badnesa49r:  my twin nieces  are going to be our flower girls… They’re 10. They’ve never been flower girls and were so excited when I asked them! I think it’s up to you though ๐Ÿ™‚

2 time MOB here: When 1st daughter married, the F/G had just turned 4. The bride had babysat her a lot (cousins) and was very close to her. 2nd daughter – F/G will be 9. She’s thin, and is wearing a long dress (not a puffy type), the same color of the bridesmaids (1 is her mother). Groom’s niece (12), will be a bridesmaid. They chose a bridesmaid gown, which had a matching junior’s gown, but she was too tall for the junior sizes. She’s getting a misses 0 – she’s thin and tallish. I think that the body type/development of the girl, has a lot to do with it.

Badnesa49r:  My “niece” was nine at the time of my wedding, and she was one of two junior bridesmaids.  The other was DH’s younger daughter, who was 13.  My five-year-old niece was our flower girl.

My little cousin will be 9 when she’s the flower girl at my wedding (if she says yes…right now she said she has to think about it because she might be too shy lol). I was a flower girl when I was 9 as well, and it was totally fine (except I hated my dress).

I think it depends on the girl. Some little girls between 9-11 might be all for being a flower girl, while others might not be interested.

I was a junior bridesmaid in my cousin’s wedding at 9.

At 9 and up, I think you are okay asking the girl what she wants to be.  She will likely have an opinion about what she is old enough for and two old for at that point.  I was a very “old” nine, having given up my dolls and barbies by that point.  My friend who was the same age bought them from us, and continued to use them for years, so it is really independent on the girl.  If you asked us both what we would like to do at that age, we would have had completely different answers.

I would also see what size she is and if you can find Flower Girl dresses in that size for her.  That may change the equassion.

My flower girl willbe 9. although i think it depends on the girl but I would probably say 12-13 to be a junior bridesmaid. our nephew will be 13 almost 14 he will be a junior groomsman.
