We’re planning a modern/classic wedding, but we were recently at a Renaissance faire and saw an adorable little girl sporting fairy wings (very large..3′ or longer), and a floral wreath hair piece. We are so tempted to have our flower girl wear something similar. Maybe not as large…not sure. If we do this, I want her to be able to move, sit during the reception, etc. and be comfortable.
Q: Would this be odd? Or can you get away with something like this because it’s just so adorable?

It’s certainly not traditional, but I think it could be cute. If I were to do it, I would definitely use smaller wings. I guess it depends on how old/big your flower girl is but 3 feet seems a little excessive! I would also stick to all white/ivory wings to try to limit it looking too much like a Halloween costume. How do your Fiance and family feel about it? What does the mother of the flower girl think? Not that you have to agree with them, but you may want to factor in what they say.
Wings or not, I think a floral wreath hair piece would be adorable!

I think you should do it! You can remove them before the reception so she can sit comfortably.

It’s cute, but personally not my style. Seems kind of costumey.

Thanks for all the feedback. I think we’re going to do it. We have plenty of time to find the perfect wings. I think we’ll go fairly conservative with the size. I think we can keep it from lookinig too costumy and just get that “aww” factor.

and instead of flower baskets, you can go with wands. 🙂 cuuuute!

It’s cute when it’s done tastefully, and if the rest of your wedding has a whimsical theme as well… I say go for it.

I guess I should mention that we’re having an outdoor wedding. Although our wedding will not be whimsical, I still think we can get away with this. We are in our 40’s so it won’t come off as immature, I don’t think. While the rest of the wedding party will be all decked out in sophisticated attire, I think that a little flower girl with wings will say, “Hey, they aren’t taking themselves too seriously.”
Personally, my attitude is that children are adorable and they grow up too quickly, so let’s embrace that innocence and enjoy it while it lasts.
My grandson is going to be our ring bearer and under his dress shirt he’s going to be wearing a superhero shirt for photo ops with his uncle later. He lives superheroes 24/7, so this is right up his alley.
I guess for me this just fits into our day. When my kids were little we had a ton of dress-up clothes and costumes. To me, childhood is about magical places and imagination. So if a little girl feels special to be wearing fairy wings and a little boy is tickled by the fact that under all of his fancy clothes he’s really a superhero, then that’s a great day.
@jwilson1, I love the wand idea. I’ve been playing around with that idea ever since I saw a video that someone posted of their ceremony and the three little flower girls carried wands back down the aisle after the ceremony. Cute!
