Due to the unique checkerboard floor at my venue, our wedding colors are primarily red, black and ivory. We are having an unconventional wedding party consisting of only children. Three flower girls and one ring bearer. I would like the girls to wear one of our colors, but I have heard on countless occasions that flower girls shouldn’t wear black. We are not buying “flower girl” dresses per se, but rather looking for something the girls could use in the future. I’ve seen some cute black options. Have any of you heard this before or is this a load of bs?

I think it’s BS, personally. Just make sure the dresses aren’t ALL black or it could look a bit dreary.

Tradition says the flower girl’s dress should be similar to the bride’s, but I don’t think it really matters what color they wear. They’ll be adorable in anything! Plus, it’s nice of you to want them to be able to wear it again

I haven’t heard anything like that, but I did hear a lot of “Oh, she should look like a little bride.” Number 1: That’s creepy. No child should look like she’s getting married that young. Number 2: It’s your wedding, and thus your choice of colors. The whole black being a dead color is long gone for people in the fashion know. Ignore them and do what you want! Maybe add a sash to the black dress in one of your other colors as a compromise?

ugh– i hate when people say certain colors mean certain things or cannot be used. I’m sure it will look adorable!
