- Wedding: April 2013
I’ve been really going all over the map on my flower plan, but it is one area that I am willing to scrimp a bit to splurge in other areas. I am doing pretty dramatic draping and uplighting, so that’s my main focus of decor for the wedding & reception (in same venue, amber uplighting in ceremony area, purple/blue uplighting in reception).
My centerpiece ideas came together yesterday around sehrler’s centerpiece phones, I’m basically going to rip that idea right off and do it as is, although I’ve ordered violet hyacinth instead of blue. About half-way down on this thread.
Those are set, ordered, done – no critique needed on the centerpiece ideas. Now, I was planning on DIYing large quantities of carnations for bouquets/bouts/corsages. I started adding up cost last night, and while I could make it work, it was a little more than I wanted to spend and I started to get concerned about the amount of work in the last couple days before the wedding. I’m really liking the idea of having them put together ahead of time. Also, the wedding is out of town (about 2 hours away) and silk would be FAR easier to transport.
Now I’m considering silks. The girls will be in dark purple (more blue undertones, like Lapis from DB’s) and the guys will be in charcoal gray suits. Tell me what you think of these flower options all together:
Bridal Bouquet – I would take two of these and combine them nicely, probably drop some of the greenery
Bridesmaids’ Bouquets – Hydrangea mix (I like white flowers against dark purple dresses but they tend to blow out in photos, so I’d rather not)
Guys’ Bouts – Take this and make small bouts out of hydrangea, I can easily handle the crafty side of that. There were a few different shades of hydrangea I debated on but figured this one was closes to the BM’s bouquets. I will also use this silk as a cake topper.
Moms’ Corsages – White Gardenia silk. This seems kind of large at 5.5″, but lots of corsages seem to be in that range. I will give them the option of pin on or wrist. I liked white because no matter what they wear, it will go.
Thanks in advance for any advice on silks! By the way, for 20 centerpieces (~$29 each all in including distilled water) and my plan above, I’m estimating the cost to be about $780.
