@laurahunter23:  Can you call US Airways to ask?  I don’t blame you for being anxious about it!

We flew US Airways to Jamaica and I read the same thing about the garment bag.  We had just bought a brand new garment bag for the sole purpose of carrying my dress in it.  In the end I worried for nothing.  They didnt open it and it was fine.  We couldnt fly first class down to Jamaica as it was too expensive and there werent any cancellations either.  So we paid I think an extra $50 ($25 pp) to board before the rest of the plane (after first class though) just so that we could have overhead compartment space for my dress.  I would have been a mess had we not gotten any overhead space and they would have had to check my dress.  Thankfully it all worked out in the end.  If you are not flying first class, I would look into the boarding before everyone else deal…we purchased this about 24 hours before our flight when we checked in online.  Best wishes to you and have fun in Jamaica!!

@laurahunter23:  Airlines cant really guarantee anything as far as space for you gown (unless you want to buy it its own seat).  Depending on the size of the plane/your dress they may hang it with first class. either in the closet or behind the last row.  if not it will have to go in the overhead.

When I flew for my Destination Wedding the female flight attendent asked the passengers sitting in the last row of first class if they were ok with my dress being directly behind them. (this plane had no closet)  They agreed so it went there.  On the way back it was a male who told me it “had to go in the overhead” didnt even bother to ask.

Commenting so I can come back when you update–I’ll be in this same boat (plane?) pretty soon myself.

I didn’t fly US Airways, but I flew with my dress on Virgin America JFK to LAX and they allowed me to board early and get an overhead bin space.  I put my dress in a plastic bag from the bridal store and tied a knot at the end (to keep dust, etc out) & then put it in the white breathable garment bag. I laid it out in the overhead bin and folded it over once at the end of the bodice/beginning of the skirt and then closed the overhead bin door since majority of fliers know that it means that overhead bin is now full.  People see the white garment bag and know it’s a bridal gown and are pretty nice if you are respectful as well.  When we got to LAX & back to my parents house, I took the dress out of the plastic and then put it back into the garment bag (if you leave it in the plastic, it could cause the white to discolor).  I’m glad I put it in the plastic though because you do have to lay it out on the x-ray machine and who knows the dirt/dust that could have gotten through the breathable garment bag!

Maybe it would be possible to ask the steward/ess/ to put it in the Galley for you?
