ShineDown does a cover of it in 4:25 …maybe you could edit the Lynyrd Skynyrd down so it’s simliar.  Is there a Radio Edit one?  Or cut out the last three verses, cause they just repeat and repeat

Maybe your DJ can edit it down for you?

Yeah, I second the suggestion to edit it down. Six-eight minutes is way too long, especially when it’s close/more than twice as long as your first dance as a couple. Just take our some verses or something, and you should be fine.

Get your DJ working on it. Most songs can be edited down in length.

@heather5743:

Awww, sorry that you’re feeling stressed out. I would try to find a radio edit(they’re usually under 3 minutes.) Also you can have the DJ cut it off at a certain point because, let’s be realistic, most guests won’t hold attention through a 6 minute song anyway.

Ya Im sure your DJ can edit it a bit. You dont even really need to tell her. Just have him do it at a normal song length.

Have the DJ start playing it, then 30 seconds in welcome Future Mother-In-Law and Fiance to the floor, let them dance for 2 minutes, then the DJ starts to fade it out.  I have several songs I’m going to incorporate that are longer.  I’m walking down the [fairly short] aisle to a Radiohead song that will be butchered down to my favorite 60 seconds.  It can be done 🙂

anything over 4 minutes is gonna be a bit of a snooze for the guests to be honest. I was worried about my song being too short but it felt like it went on for ever.  I would just tell her that its too long, unless she is ready to dance to a shorted version of the song

Yep ask your DJ to edit it down… Our first dance song is originally 6 minutes long, we’ve asked our DJ to fade out at an appropriate spot around the 3 minute mark.

Actually the lyrics are beautiful and I am sure that is what she was thinking of and not the time. I plan on dancing with my son whenever he gets married to this song because it is a perfect mother-son song. Like PP suggested try to find a shorter version and take it from there. I prefer the Shinedown version myself but not everyone does.

Just have your DJ fade it out when you want it to end.  Don’t say anything to Future Mother-In-Law about it.  Just do it.

I agree with PP, the DJ can easily cut it to a reasonable length. That is just too long, imo anyway. As a guest at a wedding with a 6-8 min song I would lose interest, sorry!

cut out the 25sec music intro and then fade out 3mins later before it kicks off into its guitar solo – it was the 70’s, everyone had a guitar solo back then

to be honest i would be damned bored having to sit through all of that without editing
