@TequilaSunrise: My mom was the same way.  Her mom took over her wedding so she hardly had an opinion on what we were doing.  She only piped up when Darling Husband wanted me to wear a tiara and no veil, I wanted the veil and no tiara, and she broke the tie for us and said both, LOL.

Do what you want, a child free wedding isn’t against etiquette at all. The only case where it could be a problem is an infant who is breast feeding. Hopefully you wouldn’t exclude that child.
