Let me start off by saying I ADORE my FH’s mom and dad…
The rest of this may not come off as delicately as I want it to…
Fh’s parents are … heavy… Future Mother-In-Law is struggling to find something she likes for the wedding (she is attempting to lose weight)… I have tried suggesting going to Alfred Angelo or Davids or somewhere like that to see what she likes… She is extremely self concious (and a BEAUTIFUL woman).. I told her that she is welcome to wear pants (flowy ones) to the wedding (so she is still nicely dressed up) or a dress, whichever she prefers (she tends to prefer pants)… I don’t know what to do to help her :-(.. I feel bad that she doesn’t seem to find anything she likes while shopping online for an outfit… Does anyone have any suggestions? Any good websites? Any experience with this?
Note: From what she has told me, Alfred Angelo goes up to a size 24, she says they don’t go up to her size (I really REALLY don’t think she’s that big).. I am so confused, and want to handle this delicately, and help her look and feel beautiful (more so than she already is) on her son’s big day…

Is there someone in her family you can ask to do some discreet snooping in her closet to check to see what her size is? You can then look online to find some styles that she likes, try some outfits on in your local stores ansd still have the option of ordering online once she knows what she wants.

@julies1949: No… I wish there was.. The only person who could would be her Darling Husband, but he doesn’t go in her closet… She won’t go to any local stores 🙁

Check out Light in a box. They have a “made to order” on most of their dresses.

It would be easier if you had a starting point re her size. Plus size generally goes from 14-24 in most stores. Superplus from 26-44.
If you can’t bring yourself to snoop the next time you are at her house, I would still do a little online research with her. Hopefully she will find something she likes, then you can ask her if it comes in her size. If it’s not available in 14-24 then you will know that she is in the larger size range.

@julies1949: She orders a lot of clothing from Roamans.. I don’t know how they are sized, but she LOVES their clothing, she even had me look through a catalog.. There really wasn’t anything that looked ‘Mother of the Groom’ to me… -sigh- I wish I could help her with her loss goals…

@Lynit: Didn’t even think about LITB! I’ll show her!
@julies1949: I think she is worried about looking “old”.. she is by no means old.. (50-something). Knowing what style clothes she wears, she would not like that.. She likes buttondown tops and knit pants, I am hoping to find her something in a Chiffon, because that is what my mom is wearing…

@julies1949: The teal or black would be perfect (prefer teal) my mom is wearing ‘tealness’ from alfred angelo… it would compliment nicely… Hmmmmm… His other color is orange.. I’ll have to take a look! Thank you SOOOO much for your help, I can’t emphasize my appreciation enough!
