So last night Future Mother-In-Law asked to see a photo of my dress. Of course I showed her, I want her to be involved in the wedding as much as possible and we have a great relationship. I was actually really surprised I hadn’t shown her yet! So I pulled out the photo from my book for her, and she literally had NO reaction. Zero. Stone face. Nothing. It was SO bizarre!!! No “Oooh it’s so beautiful!”. Not even “It’s pretty!”. Nothing. What the heck?! She was more excited about my shoes and earrings than seeing my dress. I told Fiance later and he said maybe she was in shock sort of seeing her son’s bride’s dress…. I don’t know. I thought it was kind of funny. But I’m also hoping she doesn’t hate it!!! I think I’m going to invite her to one of my fittings to see if maybe she sees it in person she’ll have a reaction?! What do you think??

That is a strange reaction. I am also wondering why she wouldn’t have any type of reaction at all. I would ask her to go to a fitting with you & see if the reaction changes. I actually asked my Future Mother-In-Law to go dress shopping with me since my mom passed away 4 years ago. She was really excited that I had asked her to go. So maybe if she went with you, she would show some emotions. Good luck!

Maybe if she’s known you’ve had a dress for awhile, she’s been envisioning it in her head, and it was totally different then what she was expecting?

That is an odd reaction. I honestly wouldn’t care too much if she liked it because 1. she is not paying for it, 2. she is not wearing it, and 3. you are not marrying her.
You can invite her along to the fitting if you would like for her to be apart of it, but honestly I wouldn’t invite her just to see her reaction.

EDIT: I do think it is a weird reaction. Maybe she was thinking about something when she saw the dress?

Weird! So she just saw it, didn’t react, and just walked away? That seems really strange to me! I think inviting her to a fitting is a good idea.

@trugem – LOL! So true, I am NOT marrying her!
I had a different dress at first and she saw that one, and she loved it. It was very “bride” with layers of silk and a bit of beading around the waist. The dress I ended up buying is the Enzoani Dakota and it really is the EXACT opposite of the first dress. It’s a mermaid fit, lots of lace, a bit sexy but really romantic and beautiful. I feel gorgeous in it.
So here’s exactly what happened: I show her the picture. She looks at it. Looks at me. Silence. Evenutally she asks if I ordered in ivory or white. Ivory. Silence. So I get out my box with my shoes, earrings, etc in it. She’s excited I’m wearing the red shoes she saw in the photo with the first dress, loves the earrings. Says they’ll look really great with my dress and a light tan. ?!?!. Then she sees the photos of the flowers, wants to know which is my bouquet. I show her, she likes it. I show her the idea for the manzanita trees around the tent, etc. She loved it. Not another word about the dress. It’s bizarrely funny to me! I have Fiance doing recon to find out what the heck is going on! LOL!

wow, thats a pretty odd reaction to seeing a picture of your dress. I wonder why. Did you ask her what she thought of it or anything?

Wow that’s actually pretty funny! You should def. post a picture of the dress! Maybe she just fell in love with the first one..?
have you asked her what she thought?? Definitely let us know how it goes at the fitting!

No, I was just sort of stunned that she didn’t say anything, LOL! It’s funny now. It was mildly funny at the time… I really wonder what was going on in her head. Maybe she just wasn’t “over” the first dress like I am.
First dress:

New dress (my dress!!!):

She saw the Enzoani photo of the model though:

Well, first of all and I know that I have told you before, I LOVE your dress! It is SO pretty! Second, I am not sure why her reaction was nonexistent in regards to the dress. That is very odd. I would definitley have the Fiance do some investigation. It doesn’t really matter what she thinks, but I would really want to know.

Your dress is beautiful!!!
My Future Mother-In-Law did the same thing. She looked at the picture, turned around, and continued cooking. I will not be inviting her to the fitting, honestly because I don’t want her to show me the uncaring face again.

Thanks ladies! I agree, the first dress is pretty but it felt more like a fun party dress on me. The second dress makes me feel like a bride. I want her to like it, but if she doesn’t it’s not like I’m going to go get a different dress to suit her. I’ll get Fiance to do some investigation, just to alleviate my (and your!) curiousity about it, LOL! Like I said to Fiance, even if she didn’t like it, what about the polite “Oh it’s so pretty” or even “wow it’s really different from the first dress you chose!” would have sufficed! LOL! Silence is unsettling, but at least I’m laughing about it. She’s a quirky duck though, so maybe this was just a quirky moment?! LOL!
@CaMoFoJo-Bro – too funny! I’m glad to see I’m not alone in the boat! Maybe it’s just overwhelming for moms?!
