@arathella:  I think you are thinking of someone else in this post.  I don’t touch folic acid because I’ve read the same studies as you and many more.  I take METHYLfolate which is the bio active form (already broken down into what the body uses).  Also, just a note, but there are genetic mutations out there that will cause people to NOT metabolize even natural folate properly, so for those people, they really need to look into methylfolate rather then just natural folate.

@dodgercpkl:  i saw that you posted the brands of prenatals that you like but is there a specific brand of methylfolate that you like? i think i’m going to switch to that but don’t know if one brand is better than another.

In huge agreement with those who recommended folate over folic acid.

Some more food for thought: http://chriskresser.com/folate-vs-folic-acid

I take Pure Encapsulations PreNatal Nutrients that I purchase from my naturopath’s office.

@arathella:  ๐Ÿ™‚  Ah!  That makes sense now.  I have to say that I’m completely thrilled to see that there are 4-5 other ladies on here that know about the difference and are taking methylfolate!  ๐Ÿ˜€  I’m usually the lone voice of dissent.  ๐Ÿ˜‰  I love this video on the differences:  http://www.doctorsresearch.com/naturalvssyntheticvitamins4.html

@hergreenapples:  I think I have that one bookmarked somewhere too.  ๐Ÿ™‚  There are soooo many articles about how different the two are that even if I didn’t have a genetic mutation causing issues, I couldn’t go back to taking folic acid again after all I’ve read about it.  BTW, did you notice that the Prenatal you are taking does still have 1mg of folic acid in it?  It’s got the right kind of B12 though!

My prenatals have 800 mcg of folic acid.
