Hello bees. Just curious how many of you took folic acid before ttc. I eat like a 4 year old so I know I’m not getting the nutrients and stuff I should be. We plan to start ttc the end of the year. I want to make sure i can do everything possible to help the process.

I did – it’s one of those things that are very difficult to get from your regular diet. But I started only a month ahead of time.

Yep, I did starting about 3 months prior to TTC. I eat pretty healthy but I’d rather be safe than sorry!

If you think toy’ll be TTC, why not just start on a good prenatal vitamin, which should include 400 or more mcg per day.

I started taking prenatals 3’months before ttc

You should see your Doctor for blood work at least 6 months before TTC, in addition to folic acid if you have any other vitamin deficiencies you can supplement them. It normally takes 3-6 months to build up levels in your body of particular nutrients. Folic acid is very important I would meet with a doc right away.

My doc said the ideal amount of time for folic acid to build up in your ovaries is around 3 months before TTC. I tried to go in for a work up before TTC and my doctor said it was unnecessary — just to take folic acid and come back in a year if I wasn’t pregnant yet. For what it’s worth, I was 31.

I did. But so many foods are fortified with folic acid (because so many pregnancies are unplanned). Examples are breakfast cereals, pasta, flour, bread and often orange juices. So you may be getting enough in your regular diet but taking a supplement is still probably a good idea.

Yep. When my Mom found out that I was taking a multivitiman she urged me to take a prenatal instead. This was about 2 years before we started trying. I’ve heard that you should start taking a prenatal around 3 months before you start TTC, for reasons that other bees have stated. But really, what’s the harm in taking it sooner than later?

We’re going to TCC in May and I just started taking prenatals with folic acid at the beginning of the month. I’ve heard you should start 3 months or so before TCC and I wanted taking the prenatal to be habit why the time we started.

I have been taking folic acid since late 2013/early 2014 and started TTC Feb 2015. We’ve had a lot of roadblocks along the way but I find my multivitamin (Pregvit) generally helps me feel better. I never believed in vitamins but I feel it makes a difference for me.

I started prenatals 13 months before I actually got pregnant and was taking 1mg of folic acid in addition around 4 months before I conceived.
