I would be OK with calling next week.

Hi Susan,   I am calling about X job. I would like to confirm that my resume has been received because I am excited about this position. Would you be able to tell me if you have it and what the expected time frame is for filling this position?

@vorpalette:  What industry/sector are you applying to?

@vorpalette:  Its possible that they already found someone else & are just waiting on a person to accept their offer. Or maybe they only wanted someone who had relevant experience within the past year doing that job in that field. Did you write a cover letter? Would the staffing agency help you with double checking your resume? Or can you intern/volunteer part time in the job field you want? Maybe volunteering with a non-profit?

& I’m sorry, that sucks :(. I’ve applied to jobs I totally qualify for & in the same field as I’m doing right now but only get those rejection letters 3-4 weeks later. Not sure why, but it really sucks & makes me sad.

@vorpalette:  Question- did the ad state what organisation the position is with? My husband used to work in executive recruitment and he says that A LOT of recruitment companies put out fake ads to collect resumes…

If you want, I’d be happy to look at your application stuff for the next job you choose – I’m not in HR (am in finance) but it might be helpful to have someone else look at your materials – I know it has certainly been the case for me!
