With my wedding in less than two weeks, I’ve started to second guess the menu we’ve choosen for the reception. The reception is late (ceremony begins at 7:00 and will last about an hour, so people won’t begin to arrive at the reception until about 8:15).
My Fiance and I decided to have some hot passed hors d’ourves and a pasta station. This is a buffet style station where our guests can choose from different types of pastas, sauces and toppings (veggies, meats, etc). And there will be rolls and salad. I was in love with how casual this idea seemed, but now I am worried that some guest will be upset by the lack of choices.
It’s too late to cancel this choice, but it’s not too late to add something like a carving station or more passed hors d’ourves.
What are you doing for your reception menu? If you were at this reception, would you expect something more than just pasta?

I think that sounds pretty good. Sounds like you have plenty of different options with the pasta. Being that your reception is that late, I would focus more on desserts. Are you having just cake? What about an ice cream sundae bar? A cookie table? Cookies and hot cocoa?

We’re having a late ceremony/reception as well, and we are just doing a dessert buffet.

Just a thought – have you thought of some light refreshments prior to the ceremony? People might be hungry around 7:00 and an hors d’oeuvre or two might tide people over until dinner at 8:15.
The amount of choice sounds just right. It’s a wedding, not a restaurant!

I second the idea of having refreshments for your guests prior to the ceremony, maybe even putting out a cheese or veggie tray so they have something to nibble on.

Actually that soumds really excellent. We are having our wedding at 7 PM as well and we are only serving light refreshments afterwards – fruit, cheese, spinach and seafood dips, deli pinwheels, cake, coffee and punch and that’s it. But then again we are having a pig roast the next day.

I think it sounds really good, but I do love pasta! Its nice that you are adding meat toppings for people that might not want pasta they can just get a couple sides of meat maybe? How many hors d’ oeuvres are you doing?
