Maybe some cold pasta like pesto bow tie, some appetizers like veggies and fruit. Some cookie and brownie plates.

Keep in mind that your time costs money if you are preparing any of this yourselves. Call up your favorite local ethnic restaurant and ask for their catering options. They will give you the same amount of food, if not more, for a fraction of the price of a regular caterer, everyone will go home stuffed and you won’t look cheap at all. Plus, you and your family/friends will be able to enjoy themselves rather than preparing food the whole time.

Skip the alcohol if you don’t think you’ll miss it at all because it will automatically make your budget jump. Stock up on sodas, lemonade, sparkling cider, coffee, water, etc from Costco.

You could see what your local grocery deli does for catering. A lot of them do pastas and different kinds of salads. Depending on how many people you have you might only need one tray of each item to feed people. For a wedding for about 150 people we bought like 4 trays each of pasta salad, tortellini pasta salad, and green salad. Of course, this was along with a few other dishes, but we still had a lot of food left over afterward.
