Hello fellow bees, this is my first post, but I’m happy I found you all, I have a feeling I will be asking lots of questions and I appreciate everyones time looking, and hopefully responding to my posts.
We are having a winter wedding (late Jan, in Canada… so it’s cold!) We have having an evening ceremony (6:45pm) and an appetizer/dessert reception. I’m super excited about this, I just talked to the caterer last night and he gave us some options. We’re doing heavy apps because we’re not doing a formal sit down, and because it’s winter so comfort food is never a bad idea. As an example some of the apps we’ll be having is Homemade Mozzerella Stuffed Meat Balls- Served warm in a homemade marinara sauce and Pulled Pork Sliders- Served warm with Mini Kaiser bread, cole slaw and hot or mild BBQ sauce (my fave!!! Yumm) and a few others. We’re also doing an ongoing dessert buffet… mostly family ‘famous’ desserts… moms apple pie, aunties rum balls and so on.
My Fiance (did I use that right? lol… I just assumed it stood for fiance… but I’m actually not sure) and I love s’mores! So we’re having a s’mores station, as well as a chili station (chili was the first meal we made together, we’ve entered festivals… it’s very indicative of us).
As a late night food option, we’re having a build your own sandwiche station with lots of fresh breads, meats and fun condiments.
What are some fun food stations you have had at your wedding or you have seen that have worked really well?
Thanks ladies!! ๐

I think that all sounds delicious! The only thing I would add is something light. Even in winter, it’s nice to have something like a salad, or veggies/fruit.

winterwoodlandbride15: At our wedding we had:
comfort food station (mini meatloaf, mini chicken pot pies, mac n cheese, sweet potato fries, chicken tenders)
action pasta station (create your own pasta and they make it)
seafood station (raw oysters, ceviche in martini glasses, crab legs, shrimp cocktail)
caribbean station because I’m West Indian (beef and chicken patties, rice and peas, garlic shrimp, jerk chicken)
Mexican station (they make guacamole while the guests watch, chips, different salsas, Mexican style chicken and rice AND a Patron luge that all my guests loved!!!)
I think we also had another station but I cant think of what it was….
We also had a dessert hour with tables and tables of desserts. All our guests still talk about how much food we had and how good it tasted.

I forgot to add:
the above were just “stations”
We also had large tables of light apps like crackers/bread/dips/fruits/spreads/meats/cheeses

winterwoodlandbride15: Welcome to the bee! Yes you used Fi right :)…..Some other stations I can think of that not sure how well they would work for you would be poutine bars, mash potato bar, taco bar, mini grilled cheese sandwiches, mini bugers (which I notice you have sliders). Milk and Cookie bar. These are all things that I have seen around the internet/pinterest/on tv. We are doing a taco bar for our late night snack. Some of the other options they gave us I listed above but the other ones were a beef dip sandwich, pizza bar and sushi bar. So many options you can go with. Since you said winter theme, I associate a hot chocolate station as well ๐

winterwoodlandbride15: Welcome!
Fiance does stand for fiance ๐
I love heavy apps and dessert! Everything you’ve planned so far sounds delish! Do you have any vegetarians coming to the wedding? You might want to make sure you have substantial food for non meat eaters! A pasta station is affordable and is a great option, and plenty of meat eaters love pasta, too! Also, I LOVE the chili station idea — what better food for the cold than chili!? Maybe you could also do a veg chili here, too.
At our cocktail hour, we are doing a chilled seafood display, pasta salad display, hot seafood display, antipasti station, pasta station, lobster and risotto martini bar, and a sushi station alongside the regular butlered stuff.
I’m all for mashed potato stations, too!!

Thanks for the responses! It’s making me hungry… hahaha. Gelaine22- mini meatloaf?!? My Fiance would die! He loves meatloaf.
We do have lighter food as well… I brought this up with the caterer last night. There will be platters of different dips/veggies/pitas/meats/cheeses/crackers… all of that deliciousness!<br />I LOVE the taco bar idea! My Fiance and I love Mexican food, that could def be an option!
The hot chocolate bar crossed my mind, I’m not decided on it yet, what about signature drinks? Easy signature drinks… we’re trying to keep it simple, but I’d like to have one option.
Thanks!!!

I love your menu, and the meaning beind the chilli. Usually when I hear “appetizer/dessert” reception it sounds too light to me, but yours sounds very filling!
I agree on having either a mashed potato or poutine bar. Starchy station in general.
Salad bar? I know you’re having the veggies/cheese/dip area but salad would be a little different.

Thanks! We made sure we would have filling apps. A lot of my family was disappointed that we were not having a formal sit down, so we promised heavy foods haha.
I LOVE poutine, Fiance hates it. We’ll see though hehe.
I thought about salad, I think we’re going to make potato and macaroni salad with the late night. Maybe we can add in more greenery ๐
Every time I talk about it I get so excited!!
